Of the nearly 8 billion USD in remittances sent to Ho Chi Minh City, countries and territories in Asia accounted for 50.4% of the remittances sent to the city; followed by America at 30.2%, Europe at 9.0%, Oceania at 8.4%, and Africa at 2.0%.

In the first 9 months of 2025, remittances from African countries to Ho Chi Minh City had the highest growth rate, reaching more than 150% over the same period, Europe increased by 16.7%, Oceania increased by 11.1%, America increased by 10.3%, Asia decreased by 2.8% over the same period.

If only calculating in the third quarter of 2025, the amount of remittances sent to Ho Chi Minh City all had impressive increases, in which, the African region transferred to Ho Chi Minh City had a growth rate of 266% compared to the same period last year; meanwhile, Europe (up 19%), Asia (up 16.9%), Oceania (up 15.5%), America (up 8%) compared to the same period last year.

Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, said that the amount of remittances through credit institutions and economic organizations was mainly recorded in wards and communes in the old Ho Chi Minh City area.

Wards and communes in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong areas account for a low proportion, estimated at about 2% of the total remittances transferred to Ho Chi Minh City, so the amount of remittances in this area has not changed much after implementing the new administrative unit.

According to Ms. Lien, the fourth quarter of each year is the peak season for remittances because it is near the New Year and Lunar New Year, overseas Vietnamese return home to celebrate Tet and remittances also go to support relatives. Accordingly, the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 branch, forecasts that the total amount of remittances for the whole year of 2025 is likely to be higher than that of 2024.
