Candidate Mai Duy Anh Quan is the valedictorian of Block B00 with the highest score of 29.8/30 points.

According to exam score data provided by the Ministry of Education and Training, in the 2023 high school graduation exam, candidate Mai Duy Anh Quan was the valedictorian of Block B00 with the highest score of 29.8/30 points. Of which, Math was 9.8, Chemistry was 10 and Biology was 10.

With this result, candidate Mai Duy Anh Quan, a 12A7 student at Nong Cong 2 High School (Nong Cong district, Thanh Hoa) is the only top candidate in Block B00 nationwide to achieve the highest score in the 3 combined subjects for university entrance, surpassing more than 1 million candidates nationwide.

Impressive academic achievements

Born into a family with a tradition of teaching, the young man Mai Duy Anh Quan, born in 2005 (Trung Thanh commune, Nong Cong district, Thanh Hoa ) showed intelligence, understanding, liveliness and a very good memory from a young age. During 12 years of primary and high school, Mai Duy Anh Quan was praised and highly appreciated by teachers and friends for his intelligence, studiousness, simplicity and uniqueness.

Sharing with the Journalist and Public Opinion Newspaper , Anh Quan said that when he knew his score, he was not too surprised because after the exam he was able to calculate his score quite close to his own, but he was surprised to become the national valedictorian.

As early as 8am, Mai Duy Anh Quan was on duty to check his score. After receiving his total score of 50.85, he immediately called his mother to tell her the news. "When we received his score, we just hugged each other and cried because we were both happy and touched, mixed with many other emotions," said Pham Thi Thuy, the boy's parent.

According to Mr. Mai Duy Ngan, the boy's father, he was quite surprised that his son became the national valedictorian of block B00. In particular, the family was quite surprised that Mai Duy Anh Quan got a 7 in Literature because he is not usually good at this subject.

It is known that during the process of studying natural subjects in class, Mai Duy Anh Quan also always performed very well. In primary school, he was always an excellent student; in secondary school, he won third prize in the district-level excellent student competition for grade 6 math, second prize in grade 7 math, and encouragement prize in grade 8 and 9 math. In high school, in grade 11, he participated in the provincial excellent student competition with grade 12 and won third prize in math and chemistry. In grade 12, he won first prize in math and second prize in biology at the provincial level.

Teacher Le Dinh Quyen, homeroom teacher of class 12A7 at Nong Cong 2 High School, said that as a good and gentle student, Quan did not pay much attention to his clothes. He mainly studied by himself and rarely attended extra classes. Mai Duy Anh Quan finished the theory of grade 12 in the summer of grade 11, and spent the whole year of grade 12 only doing exam questions. The main sources of learning materials were textbooks and the internet.

With those achievements, Mai Duy Anh Quan became the candidate with the highest score in block B in the 2023 National High School Graduation Exam.

Despite his good academic results, Mai Duy Anh Quan said that in reality, he “plays a lot” and participates in many activities. Every day, after morning classes, he spends time at home practicing questions and playing sports.

Mai Duy Anh Quan shares the secret to getting high scores is to study for the exam early.

Anh Quan said he starts studying at 8 pm and goes to bed at 11 pm, and he especially doesn't stay up too late.

“I go to bed early but don’t wake up early. Every day, I get up at 6:30 to get ready for school. On days close to exams, I wake up early to study. I was a bit nervous going into the exam, but after about the first 5 minutes, I calmed down and finished the exam well,” the valedictorian shared.

Visiting Mai Duy Anh Quan’s study corner, the reporter noticed that this guy is very neat, clean and tidy. There are not too many books, but stacks of practice test papers are stacked high by his brother-in-law.

Family buys photocopier to print mock exam papers

In particular, the family bought a large capacity photocopier for this male student to print out practice test papers. During the practice test, Quan said he always looked back at the wrong answers to learn from experience or supplement his knowledge.

Regarding the secret to getting a high score in the exam, Mai Duy Anh Quan said that the general secret is to prepare for the exam early. He tried to learn knowledge in grades 10 and 11, and in grade 12, he only focused on doing the test questions. He mainly studied at home by downloading the test questions online to practice and taking extra lessons from some teachers at school. Because he liked Chemistry the most, he was also very confident about this subject.

Dream of becoming a doctor

With the results achieved, candidate Mai Duy Anh Quan plans to apply to Hanoi Medical University with the goal of becoming a doctor in the future to be able to help those around him and bring many values ​​to society.

Going deeper into the family story, the male student's mother shared that she had previously passed the medical school entrance exam, but her family did not have the means, so she chose to study pedagogy and became a Biology teacher.

The male student's family was filled with happiness when receiving the news that he became the valedictorian of the country.

Continuing his mother's unfinished dream, Mai Duy Anh Quan set an even higher goal to enter the gate of Hanoi Medical University.

According to the exam score data announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on July 18, the average score of the 2023 high school graduation exam in Thanh Hoa province is 6.47 points, ranking 21st out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. At the same time, Thanh Hoa has 935 scores of 10 in the 2023 high school graduation exam.
