On the morning of July 5, the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ) held a press conference to announce socio-economic statistics for the second quarter and the first 6 months of 2025.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of the General Statistics Office, assessed that the socio -economic results in the second quarter and the first half of 2025 achieved very positive results.
Of which, the gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter had an estimated growth rate of 7.96% over the same period last year, only lower than the growth rate of 8.56% in the second quarter of 2022 in the 2020-2025 period.
GDP in the first 6 months of this year increased by 7.52% compared to the same period last year. Ms. Huong said that this is the highest level of the first 6 months in the period 2011-2025.
Of which, the industrial and construction sector increased by 8.33%, contributing 42.20%; the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.84%, contributing 5.59% and the service sector increased by 8.14%, contributing 52.21%.
In the industrial and construction sector, the industry achieved high growth, the added value of the entire industry in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 8.07% over the same period last year, only lower than the 8.89% increase in the same period in 2022 in the 2020-2025 period, contributing 2.64 percentage points to the growth rate of total added value of the entire economy.
The service sector, foreign trade, transportation and tourism activities increased to meet the consumption needs of the region and the world , contributing positively to economic growth. The added value of this sector was 8.14%, the highest increase compared to the same period of the years in the period 2011-2025.
In the remaining sectors, agriculture, forestry and fishery maintained stable growth, with the added value of this sector increasing by 3.51% over the same period last year, contributing 0.29 percentage points to the total added value of the entire economy.

According to statistics, in the first 6 months of the year, the total import-export turnover of goods reached more than 432 billion USD, up 16.1% over the same period last year. Of which, exports increased by 14.4% and imports increased by 17.9%. The trade balance of goods had a surplus of 7.63 billion USD.
Regarding enterprises, in the first 6 months of this year, the whole country had 91.2 thousand newly registered enterprises with a total registered capital of nearly 820.9 thousand billion VND and a total registered number of nearly 591.1 thousand employees, an increase of 11.8% in the number of enterprises, an increase of 9.9% in registered capital and an increase of 13.9% in the number of employees compared to the same period last year.
The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in the first 6 months of 2025 reached 9 billion VND, down 1.7% over the same period in 2024.
In addition, the whole country has more than 61.5 thousand enterprises returning to operation (up 57.2% over the same period in 2024), bringing the total number of newly established and returning enterprises in the first 6 months of the year to more than 152.7 thousand enterprises, up 26.5% over the same period in 2024.
On average, nearly 25,500 businesses are newly established and resume operations each month.
The Statistics Department also announced that the average consumer price index (CPI) in the second quarter of 2025 increased by 3.31% compared to the second quarter of 2024. The average CPI in the first 6 months of this year increased by 3.27% compared to the same period last year. Core inflation increased by 3.16%.
In the 0.48% increase in CPI in June 2025 compared to the previous month, there were 10 groups of goods and services with increased price indexes, only the price index of the post and telecommunications group decreased.
