Domestic supply remains low while demand is rising. Notably, unlike previous seasons when farmers often sold early to cover production costs, this year they are in no rush to boost coffee sales thanks to more stable finances from previous durian and pepper sales.
Globally, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Brazil has lowered its forecast for total coffee production in the 2024-2025 crop year to 66.4 million bags, but still up slightly by 0.2% compared to the 2023-2024 crop year. Accordingly, the decrease in output leads to expected exports reaching only over 44 million bags, down 5% compared to the previous forecast and 2.5 million bags lower than the previous crop year.
In addition, the USDA in Brazil also sharply revised down its forecast for coffee inventories. Specifically, the 2023-2024 ending inventory was cut from 2.88 million bags to 1.68 million bags, while the 2024-2025 ending inventory is forecast to be only 1.24 million bags, down 65% from the previous report.
