Coffee prices in Dak Nong province today increased by 4,100 VND/kg, being purchased at 128,200 VND/kg.
With the increase in this trading session, domestic coffee prices have reached their highest level ever.
Arabica coffee prices rose 4.6%, setting a new record in 47 years, while Robusta coffee prices recorded a record increase of 6.92%, setting a historical high. Coffee prices received strong support from speculation factors pushed up ahead of the holiday season, combined with concerns about supply in major producing countries.
Since Mr. Trump won the 2024 US presidential election, a wave of investment cash flow shifting from safe havens to highly profitable speculative markets like coffee has emerged.
Along with that, today's session (November 28), the coffee market will be closed for Thanksgiving, so there will be strong buying power, pushing prices up sharply in yesterday's session.
On the supply-demand side, the market continues to show concerns about coffee supply in major producing countries, notably Brazil. Brazil's main coffee growing region has recorded below-average rainfall over the past eight months, which is also an important period for coffee trees for the country's 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 harvests. The low rainfall has raised concerns about the inability of coffee trees to fully recover and develop, leading to a decrease in output.
Concerned about supply due to weather impacts, consulting firm Hedgepoint in its global market report forecasts Brazil's coffee output for the 2025-2026 crop year at around 65.2 million bags. Of which, Arabica coffee output is expected to be at 42.6 million 60-kg bags, down slightly by 1.4% compared to the previous crop.
Consulting firm StoneX also forecasts Brazil’s coffee output in the 2025-2026 crop year to fall by 0.4% compared to the current crop year, mainly due to a decline in Arabica coffee due to prolonged drought during the crucial flowering stage. Accordingly, the South American country’s next Arabica coffee output will fall by 10.5% compared to the previous crop year, to 40 million 60-kg bags.
For the 2024-2025 crop year, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Brazil office estimates the country’s coffee production for the 2024-2025 crop year at 66.4 million 60-kg bags, down 3.5 million bags from the previous forecast. The total production decrease is mainly due to the decline in Arabica coffee as the growing region of this crop faces harsh weather conditions during the flowering and bean development stages.
In addition, exports in 2024-25 are estimated to be down 5% from the previous forecast and 2.5 million bags lower than the previous crop year. At the same time, ending stocks in 2024-25 are down 65% from the USDA forecast, to 1.24 million bags, and ending stocks in 2023-24 are also cut from 2.88 million bags to 1.68 million bags.
In addition, Reuters also said that Brazilian farmers are limiting coffee sales at this time, especially pre-selling coffee for the 2025-2026 crop year.
