World coffee prices fell slightly as the US dollar index rose to its highest level in four months, causing prices of most commodities, including coffee, to fall. The US dollar index rose 1.64% to 105.1 points, its highest level in four months, when the US presidential election results named Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States.
Coffee losses were contained due to concerns that unusual conditions in Brazil could limit the country's coffee output.
Meanwhile, domestic coffee prices have been fluctuating during the harvest season of Vietnamese farmers, mostly decreasing more than increasing. Currently, coffee prices are still above 100,000 VND/kg, but the prolonged decline has many people worried.
At the beginning of the week, experts predicted that many factors would affect coffee prices, such as the US presidential election and the Fed's interest rate adjustment. In fact, the USD had already depreciated before the election, as investors awaited the results and the Fed's policies, helping coffee prices recover. These events are expected to have a profound impact on the global economy.
Experts and Vicofa believe that coffee prices are likely to continue to decrease in the short term. This is a normal development when the market is fluctuating, so businesses and growers should trade cautiously and calculate appropriately to cope with this fluctuation.
