At the meeting to exchange information related to electricity management and assurance organized by Vietnam Electricity Group on the afternoon of May 9, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dung, Head of EVN Business Department, said that Vietnam Electricity Group has issued Decision No. 599 on adjusting the average retail electricity price.

Specifically, the average retail electricity price will be VND 2,204.0655/kWh (excluding VAT). The applicable time is from May 10, 2025. Thus, this price is increasing by 4.8% compared to the old average retail electricity price.

On the same day, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also issued Decision No. 1279/QD-BCT dated May 9, 2025 regulating electricity prices, including promulgating retail electricity prices for groups of electricity customers and average electricity prices for electricity retailers.

Basically, this electricity price adjustment will ensure that poor households and policy families are not affected significantly. Poor households and social policy households will continue to receive support according to regulations.

Poor households are supported with a monthly support level equivalent to the amount of electricity used 30 kWh/household/month, social policy households with the amount of electricity used no more than 50 kWh/month are supported with a monthly support level equivalent to the amount of electricity used 30 kWh/household/month according to the Government 's policy.

Regarding the power source structure in 2025, low-cost hydropower sources can only provide about 25% of the total system output; the remaining 75% of the system output is provided by high-cost power sources such as coal, gas, oil, and renewable energy.

For the system's additional power output, it is basically necessary to mobilize from high-cost power sources such as oil-fired thermal power sources, liquefied natural gas (LNG) turbine thermal power sources and imported coal-fired thermal power sources.

In the context of rising power generation costs in recent years, EVN and its member units have reduced and saved costs with the requirement that by 2025, regular and major repair costs must be saved at least 10% and that they coordinate with the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited to optimally operate the electricity system and market to ensure safe and continuous electricity supply.
