Of which, 51,000 is the transaction price in Binh Thuan after a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg.

* Pig price in the South decreased by 1,000 VND/kg in some localities.

In detail, live pigs in Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang, Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh were traded at around 51,000 - 52,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND/kg.

The remaining localities purchase at stable prices.

The price of live pigs in the Southern region today is between 50,000 - 53,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices are forecast to remain low until the end of 2023 before rising slightly in early 2024. Lunar New Year is usually the time when pork consumption is at its highest in the year, and the increase in basic wages could be a factor supporting year-end consumption.

According to Vietcombank Securities, the new outbreak of African swine fever may cause a small shortage of pork supply by the end of the year but will not have much impact on prices. The reason is that the size of the pig herd in the household sector has decreased but large enterprises still maintain good herds thanks to strict disease control measures.

Currently, livestock households account for 38% of the total pork supply in the market.
