Review of pig price situation today May 16, 2025

The price of live pigs today, May 16, 2025, across the country shows significant stability, with price trends not fluctuating strongly in all three regions of the North, Central - Central Highlands and South.

In the North, the price of live pigs remained in the range of 67,000 - 69,000 VND/kg, unchanged from previous sessions. Bac Giang continued to lead the region with the highest price of 69,000 VND/kg, while Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh and Ha Nam had the lowest price, reaching 67,000 VND/kg. The remaining provinces such as Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Thai Binh, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi and Tuyen Quang recorded an average price of 68,000 VND/kg. This stability reflects that supply and demand in the North are in a state of balance, with no sudden factors affecting prices.

In the Central Highlands, the market was also quiet, with live hog prices ranging from 67,000 to 73,000 VND/kg. Binh Thuan was a bright spot with the highest price in the region, 73,000 VND/kg, followed by Lam Dong, Dak Lak and Ninh Thuan with 72,000 VND/kg. Other provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Tri had lower prices, ranging from 67,000 to 69,000 VND/kg, while Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa reached 70,000 VND/kg. This region showed a clear price difference between coastal and highland provinces, possibly due to different transportation costs and farming scales.

In the South, live hog prices continued to remain at the highest level in the country, ranging from 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. Long An, Tien Giang and Ben Tre were the leading provinces with prices of 75,000 VND/kg, while Ho Chi Minh City, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh and Soc Trang recorded the lowest prices in the region, 73,000 VND/kg. The remaining provinces such as Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Thap, An Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh had an average price of 74,000 VND/kg. The South maintained higher prices than other regions, possibly due to high consumption demand in urban areas and export activities to neighboring markets.

In general, the national live hog market is in a period of stagnation, with the average price fluctuating from 67,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. This stability may stem from abundant supply, stable domestic consumption demand and no major fluctuations in disease or input costs. However, price differences between regions still exist, reflecting the characteristics of livestock scale, transportation costs and consumption markets in each region. In the short term, if there are no unexpected factors such as disease or policy changes, live hog prices are likely to continue to remain at the current level.

News, forecast of live pig price on May 16, 2025

According to information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Bac Giang province, since the beginning of 2025, the work of preventing and controlling animal diseases in the area has achieved many positive results. Inspection, guidance and supervision activities are regularly deployed, helping to maintain the stability of animal herds and effectively control diseases. To date, no dangerous outbreaks have been recorded in the province.

To achieve this result, the authorities have actively supported people to expand livestock farming in a sustainable manner, in accordance with the market situation and disease conditions. At the same time, the province has promoted the model of concentrated farm farming, applying a closed production chain to ensure biosafety.

Regarding vaccination, Bac Giang has deployed more than 900,000 doses of avian influenza vaccine, 12,500 doses of lumpy skin disease vaccine, 34,000 doses of rabies vaccine, along with using more than 1,300 liters of chemicals to disinfect and prevent diseases such as avian influenza and lumpy skin disease. Up to now, the vaccination progress has reached more than 90% of the plan set for the whole year, far exceeding the same period in 2024.

Some districts that have been outstanding in vaccination include Tan Yen, Viet Yen, Yen The, Lang Giang and Hiep Hoa, all of which have recorded high vaccination rates. The province is expected to complete its livestock vaccination plan by June 2025.

In addition, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Bac Giang province plans to organize 6 training courses on animal disease prevention and control skills and 5 specialized courses on African swine fever this year. The goal is to ensure:

Over 80% of the breeding herd is vaccinated against diseases such as blue ear disease, classical swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease.

More than 80% of cattle and buffaloes are vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease and lumpy skin disease.

At least 80% of poultry flocks are vaccinated against avian influenza.

80% of dogs and cats subject to vaccination are vaccinated against rabies.

At the same time, the province will conduct sampling to monitor dangerous pathogens such as African swine fever virus, avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease and rabies at farms, slaughterhouses and animal trading areas. The monitoring results will be the basis for implementing timely and effective disease prevention and control solutions.

With these efforts, Bac Giang is affirming its position in livestock management and protection, contributing to ensuring livestock safety and stabilizing the agricultural market in the region.
