Pig breeding prices increase, farmers in Nghe An highlands change livestock farming

The price of piglets in Nghe An is increasing day by day. At this time, 20-30 day old piglets are being bought by traders for millions of dong each. Therefore, people in the highland districts are gradually shifting from raising pigs for meat to raising piglets.

Yen Thanh village, Luc Da commune (Con Cuong) has 165 households, 730 people living mainly by production and animal husbandry. Village chief Luong Thi Hiep said that most of the families in Yen Thanh village raise pigs or cows, most of which are pigs for meat and breeding pigs. Currently, about 80% of the households here have sold all the piglets and are preparing for the new batch.

Similarly, in Son Ha village, Tam Quang commune (Tuong Duong), since the beginning of 2025, when the price of piglets has been constantly increasing, Ms. Lo Thi Banh has switched from raising and selling pigs for meat to raising piglets for birth, selling piglets and providing pig breeding services.

Officials from the Tam Quang Commune People's Committee said that the entire Tam Quang Commune is currently maintaining a herd of more than 2,500 pigs. Traders are stepping up purchases of piglets at quite high prices, with many households selling them for 1.2 - 1.4 million VND/pig weighing about 10kg.

Currently, the price of piglets is increasing, so farmers in mountainous areas are gradually shifting from raising pigs for meat to raising and selling piglets, with a rotation cycle of 2-3 litters per year, both to recover capital faster and avoid risks, according to Nghe An newspaper.
