Transport infrastructure - the "blood vessel" connecting development
Bac Kan is a mountainous province with complex terrain, making it very difficult for people to travel. Faced with this reality, the province has focused resources, including capital from the National Target Program on New Rural Development, Program 135 and provincial budget capital to invest in building and upgrading inter-commune and inter-village roads, intra-field roads, people's bridges, and expanding main traffic routes.

If in 2015, the whole Bac Kan province had only about 47% of rural roads paved, by the end of 2024, this figure had reached over 75%, with hundreds of kilometers of inter-village and inter-commune roads upgraded and expanded. Many remote communes such as Xuan Lac, Tan Lap (Cho Don); Cao Thuong, Hoang Tri, Quang Khe (Ba Be); Thuong Quan, Coc Dan, Thuan Mang (Ngan Son); Bang Thanh, Cong Bang, Co Linh (Pac Nam) ... which were previously almost isolated during the rainy season, now have convenient car roads all year round.
According to data from the Department of Transport (now the Department of Construction) in the period of 2021-2024, the whole province has invested over 1,200 billion VND in rural transport from capital sources of the National Target Program, local budget capital and mobilized resources from the people to participate. Up to now, many remote and isolated localities have had car roads to the commune center, creating favorable conditions for people to travel, trade goods, access medical services, education , culture, etc.
To ensure investment efficiency, Bac Kan province prioritizes road construction for remote communes, ethnic minority areas, and areas with potential for economic development. Implementing the motto "State and people work together", mobilizing people to donate land, contribute working days, coordinate site clearance, creating high consensus in implementation. The province also focuses on using materials suitable to local conditions, encouraging the application of new technology in construction to save costs and increase the life of the project.
Towards opening the way for agriculture, tourism and livelihoods
The completion of the transport network not only helps shorten geographical distances, but also opens up economic development opportunities for people. Many concentrated agricultural and forestry production areas such as the citrus area in Bach Thong; the seedless persimmon, vermicelli, and fragrant green squash growing areas in Ba Be; Khau Nua Lech sticky rice, shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, and pears in Ngan Son; and planted forest wood, OCOP products, etc. quickly reach large markets thanks to convenient transport infrastructure.

In addition, synchronous investment in transportation also contributes to the development of community tourism, eco-tourism, especially in areas such as Ba Be Lake, Ba Be National Park, Kim Hy Special-use Forest, Nam Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area... helping people have more livelihoods from tourism services, homestays, clean agricultural products. With the orientation of building a synchronous infrastructure system, Bac Kan province is currently continuing to implement important transportation projects such as expanding inter-district routes, connecting production areas with national highways, natural disaster avoidance roads... Thereby creating breakthroughs in attracting investment, developing raw material areas, promoting exports and inter-regional connectivity.
Comrade Dinh Quang Tuyen, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, said: The province aims to basically harden inter-commune and village roads by 2030, fully connecting with provincial and national highways, gradually forming a modern and complete rural traffic network, serving the development of commodity agriculture, eco-tourism and processing industry. In addition, the province is also actively coordinating with provinces in the region to develop plans for inter-provincial and inter-regional traffic development. Especially the routes connecting raw material areas with industrial parks and export processing zones in Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Cao Bang, etc. When the traffic routes are completed, it will open the way for Bac Kan to enter a new stage of development./.
