The effectiveness of building OCOP products in Nhu Xuan

In order for the people to understand the meaning of the OCOP program, the District People's Committee has deployed it to communes, towns, and production entities through meetings; integrated it into propaganda campaigns on New Rural Development. The initial implementation of the OCOP program has achieved certain results. This is the driving force to promote the development of the agricultural and rural economy in an endogenous direction and increase the value of products, contributing positively to the socio-economic development of the district.

From 2020 to May 2023, Nhu Xuan district had 12 products ranked as OCOP products by the Provincial People's Committee, bringing the total number of 3-star OCOP products in the district to 24 products. The products were promoted through the province's Fairs, Exhibitions and on websites as well as participating in the display of OCOP products and potential OCOP products in localities in the province. OCOP products have been widely sold nationwide directly or through e-commerce. Through preliminary assessment survey, product sales after being recognized as OCOP increased by an average of 10 - 15%, some units doubled their sales such as: Thanh Cong Agricultural Cooperative, Thanh Lam Production, Trade and Service Cooperative, Huong Bai Nhu Xuan Agricultural Service Cooperative... Up to now, many brands have created prestige with consumers inside and outside the province such as: Duong Canh orange, Xa Doai Nhu Xuan orange, Duc Luong honey, Huong Bai, dried bamboo shoots...

Yen Cat town is a locality with many OCOP products in Nhu Xuan district. Chairman of the town People's Committee Do Tat Hung shared: In the past time, the local Party Committee and government have promoted propaganda work in many forms so that people can understand the meaning and purpose of building the OCOP program. At the same time, select and focus on building a number of potential and strong products of the locality. Up to now, the town has 8 products recognized as OCOP. Yen Cat incense products, mac khen salt, Tho Rung smoked buffalo meat... are favored by the market. Each recognized OCOP product contributes to increasing value, raising income for the subject, creating jobs for local workers, and actively contributing to the sustainable poverty reduction work of the locality. Through the results of investigation and review, up to now, the town still has 54 poor households, accounting for 2.38%; near-poor households are 181 households, accounting for 7.97%.

Yen Cat town incense products have been recognized as 3-star OCOP.

Ms. Ha Thi Oanh in Cat Tien quarter, Yen Cat town, representative of the Nhu Xuan Incense Agricultural Service Cooperative, shared: The cooperative has 17 members. Currently, the cooperative has 2 products, Yen Cat Incense and Old Incense Buds, which are recognized as OCOP. The cooperative not only improves product quality but also innovates product designs and packaging, contributing to bringing traditional products to markets inside and outside the province. Since the cooperative's products were recognized as OCOP, the value of the products has increased, contributing to creating jobs for local workers, with an average salary of 5 - 6 million VND/person/month (7 - 8 million VND/person/month depending on the season).

Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Nhu Xuan District, Le Tien Dat, shared: The district focuses on innovating production organization towards developing cooperation and linkage between enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups and people in production, processing and consumption of agricultural products, in which enterprises play a core role in directing production, applying science and technology , building and managing brands, and consuming OCOP products. Developing new-style agricultural production cooperatives to promote linkages in developing raw material areas to supply processing enterprises, forming production value chains; supporting and facilitating cooperatives, establishments, and craft villages to build product brands, build geographical indications, register for industrial property rights protection, and enhance competitiveness for regional specialties and OCOP products. Promoting trade promotion activities; developing OCOP product introduction and sales points inside and outside the province. Support and facilitate entities to improve their capacity for agricultural product processing, preservation, packaging, and labeling to create brands, protect intellectual property rights, and develop geographical indications for specialty products and key products with competitive advantages. At the same time, improve product quality management capacity and competitiveness for entities participating in the OCOP program. Convert some ineffective crops to crops with comparative advantages, promote economic efficiency, and provide raw materials for OCOP products. Support the development of raw material areas in traditional craft establishments and traditional craft villages participating in OCOP products.
