Ha Tinh General Hospital has just deployed a specialized, advanced, minimally invasive hemodynamic exploration technique in the emergency resuscitation field with the PICCO system. The deployment of this technique helps resuscitation doctors diagnose, monitor, and treat patients with shock, unstable hemodynamics, and complex hemodynamic disorders promptly, safely, effectively, and accurately.

Patient D.XT (77 years old, Tan Lam Huong commune, Ha Tinh city) is one of the cases of septic shock, heart failure, acute pulmonary edema, and complex arrhythmia that received active support from the PICCO system during the treatment process.
According to the family, the patient had a history of heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and high blood pressure. On April 21, the patient experienced chest tightness, difficulty breathing, fatigue, severe cough, and fever, so the family took him to the provincial general hospital for examination and treatment.
However, 2 days ago, the patient suffered from septic shock, heart failure, arrhythmia..., and was assisted by the doctors of the Intensive Care Unit with respiratory support, endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation; circulatory support with vasopressors and cardiac drugs. Notably, this patient was treated with the modern hemodynamic monitoring technique PICCO.

Dr. Bui Van Thien - Deputy Head of the Intensive Care Unit (Provincial General Hospital), who directly treated patient T., said: Through a central venous catheter with a thermal sensor and a femoral artery catheter, we can continuously monitor a number of hemodynamic parameters and measure most of the patient's hemodynamic parameters, thereby having a comprehensive assessment of the patient's hemodynamic status. In particular, this method can also assess the amount of extravascular fluid in the lungs, in the interstitial space. This is an important factor in assessing pulmonary edema, which is common in patients with severe infections and severe left heart failure.
The PICCO method helps doctors answer questions such as: does fluid infusion bring benefits to improve hemodynamics, when to use vasopressor adjustment, when to use and adjust cardiac support drugs, and at what stage should fluid be removed from the patient, etc., in order to come up with the most optimal treatment plan. Thanks to that, patient T. has overcome the critical stage and is gradually recovering.
Continuously updating and investing in modern medical equipment and applying advanced scientific and technological advances in the medical field, serving the diagnosis and treatment of patients, in which the modern PICCO system is typical, is the goal and development strategy of Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital to further improve the quality of medical examination and treatment services, affirm the brand of the province's end-line medical facility, bringing the best effective treatment opportunities to patients without having to go to the Central level.
