Spread the movement of national solidarity, waste collection and treatment

The Front Working Committee of Zone 5B (Quang Trung Ward, Uong Bi City) mobilizes people to recycle plastic waste to protect the environment.

Located in the center of Uong Bi City, in recent years, Quang Trung Ward has been affected by many sources of environmental pollution, affecting people's lives and activities, such as: Traffic activities, construction, industrial production, and household waste.

Faced with that situation, along with the active participation of the Party Committee, the government, the Ward Fatherland Front Committee has stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to actively participate in environmental protection. Up to now, the ward has built many good and effective models and practices in environmental protection, creating a strong spread in the community.

A typical example is the model of "transforming" plastic waste into useful items for the environment in Ward 5B. In 2023, due to the fact that there are many construction projects in the area, the number of plastic straps tying bricks, tiles, construction materials, etc. is increasing, potentially causing environmental pollution, the Ward 5B Front Committee mobilized women to collect straps from construction projects, bring them home, wash them, dry them, sort them and tie them into bundles.

Every Thursday at the cultural house of the area, the women gather to recycle and create valuable products such as baskets, flower baskets, trash cans, brooms and sell them for 30,000-60,000 VND/piece depending on the product. To date, the model has sold more than 2,000 products of all kinds, earning more than 150 million VND.

Ms. Ho Thi Minh Hoa, Head of the Front Committee of Ward 5B, said: We use all the money collected for charity such as: Visiting disadvantaged children on the occasion of June 1, Mid-Autumn Festival, new school year or supporting women's association members, disadvantaged families on the occasion of Lunar New Year; disabled children; cultural and sports activities of the ward. Thereby, multiplying solidarity and attachment in the residential community.

Implementing Resolution No. 32-NQ/TU dated July 20, 2023 of Cam Pha City Party Committee on building "Cam Pha City - A city without waste, clean, beautiful and safe", in recent times, the City's Fatherland Front Committees at all levels have stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to classify waste at source (including recyclable waste and household waste); dump waste on time and in the right place; do not bring household waste to the front gate, door of the house or on the road, sidewalk, in front of public trash cans; mobilize households to buy and place trash cans with lids in front of their houses to replace styrofoam boxes and plastic boxes without lids that cause environmental pollution.

Ms. Bui Thi Luyen, Head of the Front Committee of Tran Hung Dao Ward, Cam Thach Ward, said: We have coordinated with the Women's Union of the neighborhood to propagate, mobilize, and guide households to classify waste, collect recyclable waste such as beer cans, plastic bottles, scrap iron, and cardboard. Every quarter, the Women's Union organizes collection and sale to raise money for charity activities, supporting people in difficult circumstances, lonely elderly people, and orphans with no place to rely on.

Responding to environmental protection movements and activities launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Quang Ninh province, including the movement "All people unite to collect and treat waste", up to now, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio -political organizations have deployed and replicated over 100 models of waste collection and treatment, responding to climate change; implementing sustainable poverty reduction and environmental protection, such as the models "Reviving plastic waste", "Waste classification, household organic waste pits", "Green, clean, beautiful village - hamlet", "One trash pit, one green tree", "Turning waste into money", "Green living club", "Vracbank - Exchanging trash for money", "Using baskets to go to the market"...

With many practical and effective methods, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations have contributed to promoting the role of the community in protecting the environment and improving the quality of people's lives.
