Pig prices today (August 6) recorded mixed fluctuations in the three regions. While the North and Central Highlands regions decreased slightly in some localities, the South recorded an increase in prices in many provinces and cities. Currently, the purchase price of pigs ranges from 57,000 VND/kg to 65,000 VND/kg, in which Tay Ninh is the place with the highest price.

Pig price today in the North decreased in many localities

The price of live pigs in the Northern region today recorded a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg in many provinces and cities. Currently, the purchase price fluctuates from 62,000 VND/kg to 64,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, Hanoi , Hai Phong and Hung Yen all decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, currently at 64,000 VND/kg. Phu Tho also decreased by 1,000 VND to 63,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, localities such as Cao Bang , Lang Son, Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Son La maintained the price of 62,000 VND/kg. Quang Ninh and Lao Cai still purchased at 63,000 VND/kg. Ninh Binh remained unchanged at 64,000 VND/kg.

The remaining localities recorded no changes. Thanh Hoa continued to maintain the price at 62,000 VND/kg; Ha Tinh maintained it at 61,000 VND/kg. Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang and Quang Ngai all maintained the price at 58,000 VND/kg. Gia Lai continued to be the locality with the lowest price in the region at 57,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa still buy live pigs at 60,000 VND/kg, while Lam Dong remains at the highest level in the region at 63,000 VND/kg.

Pig price today in the South increased slightly in some places

In the South, the price of live pigs today recorded an increase of 1,000 VND/kg in many localities, raising the purchase price to 62,000 - 65,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, Tay Ninh increased by 1,000 VND to the highest level in the region at 65,000 VND/kg. Dong Thap, Ca Mau, and Ho Chi Minh City also increased by 1,000 VND, currently at 64,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, Dong Nai and An Giang remained unchanged, continuing to maintain prices at VND64,000/kg and VND62,000/kg, respectively. Vinh Long and Can Tho still maintained prices at VND63,000/kg.

The highest price is currently 65,000 VND/kg in Tay Ninh, and the lowest is 57,000 VND/kg in Gia Lai.

African swine fever rages, Phu Tho suffers heavy losses

According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, up to now, African swine fever has spread to more than 103 communes in Phu Tho province, 3,400 households have pigs infected with the disease, and over 2,100 tons of pigs have been destroyed.

According to the report of the Steering Committee for African Swine Fever Prevention and Control in Phu Tho province, after merging Vinh Phuc and Hoa Binh provinces, Phu Tho province has the second largest pig and poultry herd in the country.

Specifically, the total pig herd of Phu Tho province is currently about 2 million, the poultry herd is 36.4 million, the buffalo herd is about 415,000, and the dairy cow herd is about 18,600. The output of fresh meat for slaughter in Phu Tho province is about 490,000 tons/year, of which the output of fresh pork accounts for nearly 70%, the output of fresh milk is over 60,000 tons, and the output of poultry eggs is 1.4 billion eggs/year.

Before the African swine fever outbreak, Phu Tho province had 134,000 pig farming households, mainly small-scale farms in residential areas. The province had nearly 3,000 small and medium-sized farms.
