DNVN - On December 15, 2024, the USD exchange rate continued to maintain an upward trend, reaching 107 points and closing the most positive trading week in a month.

Foreign exchange price on December 13, 2024: 25,471 VND/USD, surpassing the 107-point mark

The Dollar Index (DXY), a tool that measures the strength of the USD against a basket of six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), ended at 107, down 0.6 points from the trading session on December 14.

The US dollar has been on a strong uptrend this week, as investors predict that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) may adjust the pace of interest rate cuts in 2025. Meanwhile, the British pound has been falling due to disappointing economic data from the UK.

The US dollar gained against the Japanese yen after reports that the Bank of Japan is likely to keep interest rates unchanged at its meeting next week.

The DXY index increased by nearly 1% last week, marking the strongest increase in the past month.

Specifically, data released on December 13 in the US showed signs of cooling in the labor market, along with more stable producer price inflation, which reinforced the belief that the Fed will cut interest rates at its meeting on December 18, but the possibility of slowing the pace of interest rate cuts next year is being considered.

Based on CME's FedWatch tool, the market has priced in a high probability of a Fed rate cut at its upcoming meeting, while also predicting a roughly 24% chance of two more cuts in January and March 2025.

San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly said earlier she supported a rate cut in December, but also stressed the need for more caution with further moves.
