Domestic durian prices today, July 16, continue to move sideways. However, prices at the orchard have dropped sharply compared to the same period last year.
According to a survey by Chogia.vn, today's durian prices in most provinces and cities have not fluctuated compared to July 15. However, the price of durian sold at the garden in some key areas only fluctuates between 65,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, about 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg lower than the same period in 2024.
In the Southwestern region, the price of selected RI6 durian is currently being purchased at around 42,000 - 46,000 VND/kg, while the price of RI6 in bulk ranges from 20,000 - 26,000 VND/kg. For Thai durian, the selected durian remains stable at 76,000 - 78,000 VND/kg, while the popular bulk durian is at 38,000 - 45,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, the price level is relatively similar. Selected RI6 is purchased for 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, RI6 in bulk is at 24,000 - 26,000 VND/kg. Selected Thai durian is priced at 76,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, and the bulk type fluctuates between 42,000 - 45,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, in the Central Highlands, the price of selected RI6 is recorded at around 42,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, RI6 in bulk is lower, ranging from 22,000 - 25,000 VND/kg. Thai durian still maintains a fairly high price, the selected type is at 75,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, and the type bought in bulk is from 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg.
Compared to the peak of 85,000 - 100,000 VND/kg in the same period in 2024, the price of durian this year is much lower, although the supply is still abundant thanks to the main harvest in the Central Highlands.
According to a report by Mordor Intelligence, the global fresh durian market is expected to reach US$10.78 billion by 2025 and increase to US$16.89 billion by 2030, with an average growth rate of 9.4% per year.
However, contrary to the general growth trend, Vietnam's durian exports to China decreased in the first 6 months of 2025, largely due to the impact of the rainy season, which caused the fruit quality to not meet standards, and many batches were returned.
In that context, although the domestic market is somewhat vibrant, prices at the garden are still low, and the profits of the gardeners are not commensurate. To stimulate domestic consumption, some retail systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City continue to implement durian buffet programs, priced from only 199,000 VND/person, helping to increase purchasing power slightly.
In a remarkable development, Malaysia is turning durian into a new tourism promotion strategy, with many hotels being encouraged to allow guests to enjoy durian on-site – something that was previously restricted.
At the 2025 World Durian Championship held on July 11 at Bangi Golf Resort, Malaysia's Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mohamad Sabu, declared: "This is not just marketing. This is a cultural festival, and we can make the hotel a destination that reflects the Malaysian identity."
According to him, Bangi Golf Resort has been recognized by the ASEAN Book of Records as the first resort in the region to allow on-site durian tasting, in a separate, airy area that does not affect public space.
In particular, he called for links between garden owners - hotels - tour operators to jointly enhance the value of the durian industry in the international market. He emphasized that Westerners may not eat fresh durian, but they love processed products such as durian ice cream, durian cake, and frozen durian.
