RI6 durian purchased in bulk has a fairly low price, ranging from 20,000 - 34,000 VND/kg, reflecting high supply during the harvest season and uneven grading quality.

Higher-end segments such as Thai durian, beautifully selected, remain at 76,000 - 82,000 VND/kg, while Thai VIP - carefully selected for export - still maintains a high price range of 95,000 - 100,000 VND/kg.

The Central Highlands region recorded durian prices ranging from VND25,000 to VND82,000 per kilogram, depending on whether you buy in bulk or by choice. This price level shows relative stability in the supply chain in the region, although the export market has not yet fully recovered.

Durian news today July 5, 2025

According to The Nation, from January 2025, the General Administration of Customs of China has applied new regulations, requiring all imported durian shipments to have a test report that does not contain Basic Yellow 2 (BY2) - a banned dye that is considered to be carcinogenic.

The move comes after several shipments of Thai durian were found to contain traces of BY2, raising food safety concerns in the Chinese market – the world's largest consumer of durian.

In response, the Thai government has urgently implemented remedial measures such as registering more laboratories, upgrading testing infrastructure, and increasing human resources to support exports.

In addition, China has also introduced a special 24/7 customs clearance procedure for durian, allowing for quick inspections at border checkpoints – part of efforts to maintain a stable supply chain between the two countries.

Under pressure from China, Thailand is accelerating the modernization of its testing and traceability system. According to Ms. Duanrung Benjamas – Director of the Agricultural and Food Research and Development Center East – the country currently has 9 modern testing centers, capable of analyzing pesticide residues, minerals and contaminants.

In addition, the Thai government is also investing in expanding the inspection network, upgrading equipment and preparing to put into use testing machines sponsored by Chinese enterprises. The goal is to test quickly, accurately and meet international standards for exported food.

Industry experts say this is an opportunity for Vietnam to learn from Thailand's experience, thereby improving the domestic durian value chain, especially in the context that Vietnam is also promoting the export of frozen and fresh durian to China, South Korea and the EU.
