Việt NamViệt Nam31/12/1969

The price of live goat meat in Tien Giang province in the days after the Lunar New Year 2024 has increased again, helping farmers feel excited and secure in investing in developing their goat herds.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Go Cong Dong district, a locality with a popular goat farming profession in Tien Giang province, the district's goat herd currently reaches about 60,000 goats, concentrated in coastal communes such as Tan Thanh, Kieng Phuoc, Phuoc Trung... During the period before Tet, the price of breeding goats and meat goats decreased sharply, prices were lower than normal, production costs increased, and people's profits were low, so people are currently limiting re-herding. Currently, the price of live goat meat has increased again, so farmers are excited and continue to re-herd.

According to goat farm owners in Tang Hoa commune, Go Cong Dong district, the price of live goat meat purchased by traders at this time has increased by 20 - 35% compared to last year. Meat goats are currently being purchased by traders at the barn for 95,000 - 110,000 VND/kg for goats weighing 17kg or less. At this price, farmers will make a profit of 500,000 - 700,000 VND/goat.

Mr. Doan Van Hong, owner of a goat farm in Tang Hoa commune, Go Cong Dong district, said that the current price of goat meat has increased because the number of goat raising households in the district in particular and in Tien Giang province in general has decreased significantly in recent times, leading to a phenomenon of higher demand than supply. In addition, some restaurants and eateries have increased their demand for goat meat to prepare dishes, helping to increase the price of goat meat.

Tien Giang province currently has a total herd of about 160,000 goats, concentrated in coastal localities such as: Go Cong Dong district, Go Cong Tay district, Tan Phu Dong district, Go Cong town,... of which the largest is Go Cong Dong district with a total herd of nearly 60,000 goats.

Faced with the rising price of meat goats, breeders are confident in restocking their herds but increasing natural food sources such as: So dua leaves, grass, jackfruit leaves..., limiting the amount of food given to goats to reduce input costs.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang province, in 2023, the production and consumption of livestock products will ensure supply. The prices of some animal feed products have recently been adjusted down slightly by 300 - 400 VND/kg, which is a good sign for livestock farms, reducing input costs and reducing pressure on livestock farms. In 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang province will continue to recommend and increase technology transfer to people in the province on biosafety livestock farming associated with the application of high technology to improve production efficiency in livestock farming, limit diseases, and improve economic efficiency.
