Pepper prices today in the domestic market remained stable in some key localities, trading from 70,500 - 73,500 VND/kg.
Specifically, pepper price today in Gia Lai is at 70,500 VND/kg.
Pepper prices today in Dong Nai province (71,000 VND/kg); Dak Nong, Dak Lak (71,500 VND/kg); Binh Phuoc (72,500 VND/kg) and Ba Ria - Vung Tau are at the highest level of 73,500 VND/kg.
In the world market, at the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Vietnamese black pepper at 3,500 USD/ton for 500 g/l, 3,600 USD/ton for 550 g/l; the price of white pepper at 5,100 USD/ton. IPC continued to adjust down pepper prices in Indonesia when the harvest in some localities came to an end.
Thus, in the domestic market, after 3 consecutive days of increase, pepper prices have stopped increasing.
According to preliminary statistics of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, in August 2023, Vietnam exported 19,617 tons of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 17,425 tons and white pepper reached 2,192 tons.
Total export turnover reached 73.4 million USD, black pepper reached 62.4 million USD, white pepper reached 11.0 million USD, compared to July, export volume increased by 29.5%, turnover increased by 29.3%. The average export price of black pepper in August reached 3,634 USD/ton, white pepper reached 5,185 USD/ton, down 49 USD for black pepper and 22 USD for white pepper compared to the previous month.
The US continued to be Vietnam's largest pepper export market in August, reaching 4,376 tons, up 31.8% compared to July. Next were the markets: India: 1,986 tons (up 205.1%); China: 1,465 tons (down 25.2%); UAE: 1,234 tons (up 124.0%)...
By the end of August 2023, Vietnam exported 187,755 tons of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 168,643 tons and white pepper reached 19,112 tons. Total export turnover reached 616.1 million USD, black pepper reached 525.4 million USD, white pepper reached 90.7 million USD.
Compared to the same period last year, export volume increased by 15.1% equivalent to 24,625 tons, however, export turnover decreased by 15.0% equivalent to a decrease of 108.9 million USD. The average export price of black pepper in the first 8 months of 2023 reached 3,523 USD/ton, white pepper reached 5,058 USD/ton.
China continues to be Vietnam's largest pepper export market in the first 8 months of 2023, reaching 53,792 tons, up 454.8% and accounting for 28.7% of the market share. Next is the US with 33,589 tons, down 10.6%, accounting for 17.9% of the market share.
Exports to some markets in Europe also decreased such as Germany: 6,125 tons, down 20.0%; Netherlands: 5,522 tons, down 10.1%; Russia: 3,490 tons, down 7.2%... African exports increased by 13.2%, of which Egypt increased by 47.5% to 3,113 tons; Senegal: 1,763 tons, up 53.2%...
According to records, global pepper trade is showing signs of slowing down in Vietnam, Indonesia and India, but increasing in Brazil.
Brazil's pepper exports in July increased 26.4% month-on-month to 6,276 tonnes due to additional supplies from the new harvest, according to data from the Brazilian State Center for Foreign Trade Statistics (Comex Stat).
