World gold price today June 2, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:30 p.m. on June 2, Vietnam time, was 3,346.92 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 56.26 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,210 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 109.7 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 8.1 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
Gold prices rose nearly 2% to a one-week high, driven by safe-haven demand as US President Donald Trump continued to threaten new tariffs and tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalated, raising concerns about global risks.
Specifically, spot gold prices increased by 1.71%. Earlier in the session, prices reached their highest level since May 23. US gold futures also increased by 1.9% to $3,377.5/ounce.
One factor supporting gold prices is the weakening of the US dollar. The DXY index fell 0.5% after Mr. Trump announced that he would double tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50%. At the same time, China reacted angrily when it was accused of violating an agreement on the export of critical minerals. A weaker US dollar makes gold more attractive to holders of other currencies.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Trump would soon speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping to resolve trade tensions over minerals. But until progress is made, markets remain on edge, making gold a popular safe haven.
Risk-off sentiment amid a slump in Asian equities and rising geopolitical tensions, particularly between Ukraine and Russia, have boosted demand for gold, said UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo. He also said the trade dispute between the US and China continues to support gold prices.
On the geopolitical front, both Russia and Ukraine have stepped up their military offensives ahead of a second round of peace talks in Istanbul. Ukraine has launched a major offensive, while Russia has also launched drone strikes at night.
In the US, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will speak later in the day, and markets are awaiting further cues from several other Fed officials this week to gauge the outlook for monetary policy going forward.
In addition to gold, other precious metals also had mixed developments. Silver prices rose 1.3% to $33.42 an ounce. Meanwhile, platinum prices fell 0.4% to $1,051.95 an ounce, while palladium edged up 0.1% to $972.25 an ounce.
