The world gold price continued to increase to 3,430.49 USD/ounce, nearly 10.5 USD higher than yesterday. Converted according to Vietcombank exchange rate, the world gold price is equivalent to 108.45 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Currently, each tael of SJC gold bar is 12.5 million VND more expensive than the world price.
The precious metal continued its rally as investors rushed to safe-haven assets after Israeli airstrikes on Iran raised concerns about a wider conflict in the Middle East. Investors viewed the Israeli-Iranian attacks as the most significant geopolitical event since the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Gold is considered a safe-haven asset, especially during times of economic turmoil and geopolitical uncertainty.
In addition, weaker US inflation data earlier this week reinforced expectations of a rate cut by the US Federal Reserve (Fed), which also helped the precious metal rise.
In contrast, the US stock market plunged. At the close of trading on June 13 (early morning of June 14, Vietnam time), the Dow Jones index fell nearly 770 points, equivalent to 1.79%, to 42,197.79 points. The S&P 500 index also fell 1.13% to close at 5,976.97 points, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.3% to 19,406.83 points.
The weekend sell-off sent major indexes into negative territory. The S&P 500 lost 0.4% last week, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.6% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.3%.
