Notably, the domestic gold market continues to heat up, although the world gold price fluctuates insignificantly. Currently, spot gold is trading around 2,034 USD/ounce, down slightly by more than 1 USD during the session.
Gold’s narrow trading range appears to have discouraged many market participants as they await key economic data this week, with the focus on the US inflation report due later this week that will have an impact on the pace of interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve.
Specifically, on Thursday, the government will release the latest inflation data related to the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index. Initial forecasts suggest that inflation will increase, with an increase of 0.4% compared to the previous month.
Still, experts say that if inflation picks up just a little, as expected, the precious metal will have a hard time breaking out of its current narrow trading range. If the data is significantly hotter than expected, gold could even fall below $2,000 an ounce.
