Since its first award ceremony on February 3, 2017, the National Press Award on Party Building (Golden Hammer and Sickle Award) has been a prestigious and well-known press award, highly regarded by professionals in the field.
According to Mr. Ngo Minh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of the Party Building Magazine, the Standing Committee of the Award, Vice Chairman of the Preliminary Judging Panel, and Head of the Secretariat of the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award, 2023 was the year with the highest number of entries (2,216 entries, an increase of 184 entries compared to 2022).
The entries were of more consistent and better quality compared to previous seasons, closely adhering to pressing issues, prominent events, and key tasks of the political system and the country. Many entries delved deeply into current issues related to Party building and rectification. Some entries addressed pressing current problems, demonstrating strong social critique and a high level of engagement. The entries that reached the final round represented a very encouraging step forward, ensuring quality in content, harmonizing genres, forms, regions, and covering all provinces and cities nationwide.
According to Mr. Ngo Minh Tuan, a new feature in the content of the journalistic works participating in this year's competition is the vivid and timely reflection of the Party's political events and activities, such as the launch of books by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Mid-term Conference (7th Central Committee Conference), and the Resolutions of the Central Committee and the Politburo (13th term) focusing on leading and directing the building of culture and ethics within the Party, planning for the strategic-level cadre; combating the "disease of fear of responsibility" and building a mechanism to protect cadres who dare to think, dare to act, and dare to act for the common good; inspection, supervision, and control of power associated with the fight against corruption and negative phenomena; combating erroneous and distorted views to protect the Party's ideological foundation and national sovereignty in cyberspace; digital transformation and the application of technology to Party work; and the development of 6 strategic and key socio-economic regions…
In addition, there are series of articles that delve into the causes of the phenomenon of many cadres and Party members deteriorating in terms of political ideology, morality, and lifestyle, "self-evolution," and "self-transformation"; or that delve into areas of Party building and organization, such as personnel work, grassroots Party organization work, and improving the quality of Party members.
Regarding the issue of combating distorted narratives about religion, ethnicity, and human rights in Vietnam, this year saw many articles that presented a rich, vivid, and profound perspective, with very rigorous and persuasive arguments. In addition, some journalistic works reflected new factors, good models, and innovative approaches from various localities.
Notably, the 8th Golden Hammer and Sickle Award - 2023 saw the highest number of provincial-level media outlets submitting television programs ever, including even district-level cultural centers, television programs from the Police, the Provincial Military Command, and private media companies. Some of the entries were insightful and of very high quality, with effective propaganda and sharp refutations of the distorted narratives of malicious actors.
Content defending ideological foundations is not only found in works by central press agencies but also in many local newspapers, radio, and television stations. Many works, after being published or broadcast, have attracted the attention of a large audience and readers. This shows that the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award is increasingly spreading its influence.
The 2,216 entries submitted to this year's Golden Hammer and Sickle Award paint a comprehensive picture of the country's political, economic, social, security, defense, and foreign affairs life in 2023, with very bright colors, just as the General Secretary said: "Our country has never had such a foundation, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today."
