Launching the National Press Award on Gender Equality in 2026

This year's National Press Awards on Gender Equality focus on three main themes, reflecting the challenges and efforts in promoting gender equality in Vietnam.

On November 26, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) coordinated with the Vietnam Journalists Association to organize the launching ceremony of the 2nd National Press Award on Gender Equality in 2026.

The 2nd National Press Award on Gender Equality in 2026 is being held in the context of Vietnam actively implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including goal number 5 related to promoting gender equality.

Vietnam recently held a conference to announce the National Report on 30 years of implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in Vietnam, marking an important milestone in Vietnam's journey to promote gender equality and women's empowerment.

Launching the press award, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen said that Vietnam is currently a member of the Executive Council of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) for the 2025-2027 term, which demonstrates the international community's recognition and appreciation of Vietnam's policies and achievements in promoting gender equality and international cooperation efforts.

The President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union reiterated the important direction of General Secretary To Lam at the 95th Anniversary of the Vietnam Women's Union. The General Secretary requested to promote substantive gender equality, ensuring women's participation and stronger contribution in the country's three major transformations: Green transformation - digital transformation - human resource development. The General Secretary also directed all levels and sectors to pay special attention to protecting women and children from the risk of violence, abuse and misinformation in the digital environment, considering this the responsibility of the entire political system, which needs to be implemented with synchronous, timely and effective solutions.

This year’s Press Awards focus on three main themes: Promoting prevention and response to gender-based violence, promoting gender equality in digital transformation, and promoting gender equality in economic development. These are key areas, reflecting the challenges and efforts in promoting gender equality in Vietnam.

Ms. Caroline Nyamayemombe, Chief Representative of UN Women in Vietnam affirmed: "This award is not just a contest. It is a recognition of the indispensable role of the press in challenging gender stereotypes and shaping a society where women and men have equal opportunities to develop."

According to the Organizing Committee, the 2nd National Press Award on Gender Equality will select works in four categories: Print, electronic, radio and television. The works will be licensed to be published and broadcast on mass media from December 1, 2024 to March 30, 2026.

The Organizing Committee will award 1 A prize, 1 B prize, 2 C prizes and 2 Encouragement prizes for each category. The award ceremony is expected to take place in June 2026.
