On the afternoon of November 26, answering reporters of VTC News Electronic Newspaper, the leader of the People's Committee of Y Ty commune, Lao Cai province said that the first frost of this winter appeared in some areas in the locality.

Specifically, at around 6:30 a.m. the same day, the temperature in Y Ty commune was recorded at 3°C, and by around 10:00 a.m. the same day, the temperature increased to 5°C. The strong cold air caused all the trees, grass, and flowers on the mountain slopes to be covered with a layer of white ice.

According to local people, from early morning, in areas above 2,600 m, dense frost appeared, turning grass and tree branches white.

Beautiful and majestic images of ice covering tree branches and blades of grass have been recorded by tourists and local guides. The familiar trekking route with forest canopy or low grassy hills now appears more strange and magical thanks to the transparent layer of ice.

Local tour guide Lam Tu said that on November 26, Lao Than peak was covered in thick ice, covering the entire trekking route, providing a unique experience for tourists.

Faced with complicated and cold weather, the Y Ty commune authorities have sent officials to propagate and guide people on measures to keep warm and take care of livestock and crops.

The leader of the People's Committee of Y Ty commune emphasized that villages and hamlets need to proactively cover barns, store food, and pay special attention to the elderly and children.

This is the second time Lao Cai has seen frost this winter. Previously, on November 19, a strong cold spell also caused frost to appear on the road to Ta Xua peak, Hanh Phuc commune.

The North has just experienced the strongest cold spell since the beginning of winter, with the lowest temperature dropping to 11-14°C, and in some mountainous areas below 5°C.

According to Ms. Le Thi Xuan Lan, a hydrometeorological expert, this year's cold air appeared early, and the recent very strong cold air wave is rare in November.

In December, frost may appear more frequently, not only on mountain peaks above 3,000m but also in places like Sin Ho, Mu Cang Chai, Mau Son..., even the Ba Vi mountain area in Hanoi - where snowfall has been recorded.

"La Nina is active and may last throughout the winter. There will certainly be some cold air waves causing snow or ice, frost over a fairly large area, mainly in mountainous areas. The places where it appears may be more numerous than in previous years," Ms. Lan shared.
