Starting mechanical construction of Lot B

This is a particularly important milestone that kicks off the mechanical construction phase of the entire onshore pipeline, marking an important acceleration step in the overall progress of the project.

Block B - O Mon project is one of the large and key national oil and gas project chains, playing a key role in ensuring energy security, promoting clean energy transition and sustainable development in the Southern region. In particular, the onshore pipeline has strategic significance when connecting gas sources from offshore to shore, creating a gas supply platform for gas power plants in O Mon and neighboring areas.

With a length of about 430km and a total investment of billions of USD, the Block B gas-power project chain, when completed, will provide 5-6 billion cubic meters of gas per year, meeting the electricity needs of millions of households, contributing to ensuring the stability of the national power system, reducing dependence on traditional fossil energy sources, in line with Vietnam's Net Zero commitment at COP26.

To achieve the current mechanical construction milestone, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, General Director of SWPOC, said that the total progress of the onshore EPC package has reached 29.63%, of which the design is 100% complete, procurement is 37.48% and construction is 3.18%. In 2025, subcontractors PV PIPE and PVCoating have completed 100% of the production and coating of pipes according to the highest quality standards; all pipes have been safely transported to the construction station. In addition, the General Contractor has also deployed land leasing, preparing the yard, digging trenches, preparing mechanical construction and pulling - pushing pipes into the trenches in An Giang . The upcoming mechanical construction phase is considered a real challenge, where the technical capacity, professionalism and quality commitment of the units participating in the project are verified.

Therefore, at the groundbreaking ceremony, SWPOC leaders requested contractors to focus on three core pillars: Urgently deploy construction to ensure progress in sync with the entire route and the entire project chain, aiming for First Gas in the third quarter of 2027; absolutely maintain labor safety in all mechanical construction stages that have many potential risks, strictly comply with safety and labor hygiene procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment; at the same time, strictly control quality, from each weld to each installation step, to ensure the pipeline achieves the highest integrity and can operate stably and long-term according to international standards.
