"National uncle" Ma Dong Seok returns
“Holy Night: Demon Hunters” is a South Korean action thriller film directed by Lim Dae-hee. The film is set in modern-day Korea. At this time, a series of tragic murders are shaking public opinion and making the police scratch their heads. Suspecting that the case is related to a demon-worshipping cult and supernatural forces, the investigation team makes an extremely bold decision to give the Holy Night Society the green light to intervene.
Throughout the film, the Holy Night group faces a series of mind-boggling battles: from deformed creatures summoned through blood rituals, to a duel in a skyscraper turned into a "gateway to hell" by the cult. The climax is the confrontation with Jung Ji-so (the main villain) - who is trying to sacrifice the entire city to awaken the demon king.
The work also scores points thanks to the combination of creepy ghost elements with intense, breathtaking action. As the demons become increasingly bold, so do the people who hunt them. Therefore, each encounter between the Holy Night Society and the dark forces promises to be filled with fierce fighting scenes. In particular, humorous colors are also cleverly inserted into the Demon Hunters. The graceful juggling of the exorcism trio will bring gentle laughter, while helping to calm the audience's mind after a series of heart-stopping scares and thrilling chases.
Besides the action-horror and comedy elements, the film also deeply explores the inner conflicts of each character, especially the relationship between Seohyun and David Lee when both discover the shocking truth about the origin of the Holy Night group.
The film ends with a haunting scene where, although the cult is destroyed, a member of the group is infected with the "evil seed", revealing the possibility that the sequel will be even more brutal.
The film brings together a cast of famous actors from the Korean entertainment industry, bringing impressive performances revolving around the fight against the demonic cult. First is Ma Dong-seok (nicknamed “the screen beast”) playing the leader of the demon hunter team, combining his signature martial arts strength and diverse acting ability. He is expected to create eye-catching action scenes, continuing the success of the Train to Busan series or The Outlaws.
Seohyun (former member of SNSD) also surprised everyone when she transformed into a female warrior with mysterious supernatural powers. She received many compliments for her "perfect appearance from face to body" and mature acting style, completely different from her previous idol image.
The film also stars Lee David and Kyung Soo-jin as the remaining two members of the Holy Night team, each with a special skill to confront the dark forces. Actress Jung Ji-so also appears as a haunting villain, adding drama to the story.
Top 1 Korean Box Office
Released right during the holiday season in early May, “Holy Night: Demon Hunters” immediately proved its undeniable appeal when it climbed straight to the number one spot at the Korean box office on its first day of release on April 30. According to statistics from the national ticket management system, the film attracted more than 117,000 viewers in just 24 hours, bringing the total cumulative viewership to more than 121,000.
With a strong start, observers say Holy Night has all the necessary advantages to become the most notable box office hit of the early summer holiday, amid the context that the Korean film market is entering a period of fierce competition between domestic and international series.
“Holy Night: Demon Hunters” opens nationwide from May 9, 2025 with both subtitled and dubbed versions.
