Within the framework of the project, 15,182 households were educated to reduce plastic waste.

On October 25, the TVA Project Management Board (MB) held a meeting to summarize the propaganda model on waste classification at source (PLRTN) and plastic waste reduction (GTRTN) applying the action education method, to share the results and lessons learned from the communication process implemented.

The summary meeting shared the results of the implementation of the plastic reduction propaganda activities using the action education method; shared the progress, advantages, and difficulties in mobilizing people to implement and discussed the direction of expanding the model. In addition, to recognize the contributions of the propaganda team, the TVA Project honored 23 excellent propaganda groups in the propaganda activities of GTRTN and PLRTN in Hue City.

The TVA project, funded by WWF-Norway (through WWF-Vietnam) and received by the People's Committee of Hue City, aims to support the city in protecting rivers and wetland and coastal ecosystems from plastic waste pollution, with the goal of reducing 30% of plastic waste loss by 2024. The project will be implemented over 4 years, from 2021-2024 and is divided into 2 phases: Project initiation phase (2021) and implementation phase (2022-2024).

To build a green, clean, bright city, PLRTN and GTRTN, direct communication to people about the benefits of PLRTN, potential risks and harms of RTN, as well as applying single-use GTRTN solutions is an effective way to change behavior to reduce plastic use in the community.

Since May 2023, the TVA Project has developed a toolkit including a checklist with encouraging behaviors to reduce plastic and a notebook, an information entry form, and built a team of communicators to conduct communication and education on actions to reduce plastic waste in 8 wards and communes, focusing on households and businesses.

After 3 months of successful pilot implementation, starting from October 2023, the TVA Project has deployed communication on a large scale to 19 wards and communes in the city. From April 2024 to October 2024 is phase 3 of the communication campaign applying the action education method, thereby implementing communication activities to change plastic reduction behavior to people in 26 wards/communes in Hue City.

After more than 17 months of implementation with 3 implementation phases, the activity of propagating behavior change to reduce plastic using the action education method has achieved many positive results. Accordingly, 15,182 households were propagandized to reduce plastic with 44,251 household visits; 492 businesses were propagandized to reduce plastic with 1,214 household visits; the activity was implemented in 172 residential groups in a total of 31 wards and communes of Hue City through 3 implementation phases. Over 18 tons of plastic waste was reduced through the project's activities.

In addition, one of the important factors for the TVA Project to successfully apply this method is to successfully build a team of propagandists with the enthusiastic participation of 612 members. In addition to guiding people, they are also typical examples in practicing plastic reduction solutions to their relatives and the surrounding community.
