An Giang has done a good job in building child-centered preschools.
The An Giang Department of Education and Training has been making efforts to implement the thematic project "Building child-centered preschools in the period 2021-2025". Over the past five years, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, especially the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the deterioration of facilities in the 2021-2022 school year, the high determination of all levels of education has yielded many positive results. Efforts to invest in new construction, renovate campuses, design educational environments, and apply advanced educational models have significantly contributed to the development of preschool education in the province.
Regarding child enrollment rates, An Giang has achieved over 87% enrollment for preschool children, with 100% enrollment for 5-year-olds. Nearly 80% of preschool children attend two sessions per day, demonstrating parents' confidence in the quality of education at preschool facilities. In terms of national standard school quality, over 60% of preschools in An Giang meet national standards (105 out of 176 schools, equivalent to 59.7%).
Along with that, the infrastructure and educational environment have improved significantly. Most preschools have received investment in building spacious classrooms and functional rooms, equipped with complete facilities, supplies, and toys, creating favorable conditions for the effective implementation of thematic programs. The educational environment inside and outside the classroom has been invested in and planned to maximize space for children's activities in a suitable, flexible, and creative way. The design of integrated play models has helped children develop comprehensively in terms of physical health, thinking, personal abilities, and life skills. Materials and toys are designed with an open concept, and some schools even equip themselves with materials and toys that adopt the STEAM educational approach, helping children naturally and effectively develop skills applicable to their daily lives.
A prime example of a model that promotes positive learning in children in An Giang province is Hoa Phuong Kindergarten (Long Xuyen City). The school's open-corner design has successfully connected knowledge with real-life situations. The school has utilized the schoolyard space to create meaningful exploration models, helping children interact with and discover nature and the world around them. A prime example is the "Sea and Children" activity. Here, children have the opportunity to experience and explore, immersing themselves in nature, sunshine, wind, and sand through activities such as: setting up tents with friends, stimulating imagination and creativity. At the same time, it creates a joyful and lively atmosphere while remaining safe and easily supervised in an outdoor environment, fostering joy and affection between children and their teachers and friends.
With the achievements already made, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Vo Binh Thu suggested that preschools in the province continue to replicate the model of child-centered preschools that have proven effective in the 2021-2025 period throughout the province; improve the capacity of preschool administrators and teachers in managing and implementing the preschool education program based on the child-centered education approach; promote the application of information technology and digital technology in childcare and education activities at preschools; and continue to promote social mobilization to attract investment in facilities, equipment, and supplies for preschool children and enhance the conditions for implementing the preschool education program.
