Tran Dieu Linh (born in 2000, from Nghe An) is a student at Hai Phong University. This year, she will not return home for Tet. Linh stays to work extra on New Year's Eve and the first and second days of Tet. The salary she receives during this time is from 500,000 to 700,000 VND/day. Her job is to wait tables at a hot pot and barbecue restaurant on Le Loi Street.
After the third day of Tet, the restaurant closed, Linh and many other young people returned to their hometowns. They chose to meet their families late, to earn more income to help their parents with the second semester tuition.
According to Linh, from 4pm on New Year's Eve, the restaurant where Linh worked part-time had many young people coming to book tables. They came in groups of 5 to 10 people, making appointments to have dinner and go out on New Year's Eve.
“There are also many young people who come to book a table at my restaurant but only go with their girlfriends, and ask the restaurant to arrange a quiet, airy location and bring fresh flowers. Maybe they intend to choose the sacred moment of the new year to confess their love or plan a lifelong relationship,” Linh said.
According to VietNamNet reporters, on streets such as Le Loi, Lach Tray, To Hieu, Da Nang ... in the center of Hai Phong, service activities at New Year's Eve are no different from normal days.
Shops are bustling with lights, kumquat trees, and peach blossoms. Restaurants and cafes play vibrant spring music, creating a warm and joyful spring atmosphere for young people.
Hai Phong police force is deployed on main roads, in front of crowded restaurants.
Nguyen Hong Minh (born in 2022, residing in lane 2 Bui Thi Tu Nhien, Dong Hai 1, Hai An district) shared: "Every year, we all go to the city's opera house to watch music and wait for fireworks. Because most of the restaurants and entertainment venues are closed.
This year, many restaurants, cafes, and bars have announced that they will be open during Tet. I made an appointment with a group of close friends to go out for dinner to talk about the past year and discuss plans for the new year. Instead of going to someone’s house, we went to a restaurant for convenience and freedom.”
