Fierce fighting in Kursk, Ukrainian forces lose expensive equipment

The Russian Defense Ministry said at a press conference on September 22 that the 22nd, 41st, 115th Mechanized Brigades; 17th Tank Brigade; 95th Air Assault Brigade; 36th Marine Brigade; 1st National Guard Brigade and the 103rd, 129th Territorial Defense Brigades of Ukraine suffered heavy losses, adding that most of the losses occurred near the settlements of Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Tolsty Lug, Malaya Loknya and Plekhovo.

The Russian Defense Ministry also announced that the Sever Group of Forces repelled seven attacks by Kiev forces near the settlements of Maryevka, Malaya Loknya and Bolshaya Obukhovka, causing at least 20 Ukrainian soldiers to be killed or injured.

According to the ministry, the group also prevented three attempts by the Ukrainian army to cross the Russian border near the settlements of Novy Put and Medvezhye.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered up to 40 casualties, two armored fighting vehicles, one anti-obstacle vehicle and two motor vehicles. Five soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces surrendered," the Russian Defense Ministry detailed in the summary.

In addition, the ministry said, the Russian military also carried out air and artillery strikes against troop concentrations of the 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th Mechanized Brigades; 17th Tank Brigade; 80th, 95th Air Assault Brigades; 36th Marine Brigade and 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 103rd Brigade and the 129th Territorial Defense Brigade near the settlements of Guyevo, Kazachaya Loknya, Kolmkovo, Lyubimovka, Mikhaylovka, Malaya Loknya, Melovaya, Malaya Obukhovka, Medvezhye, Novy Put, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Russkoye Porechnoye, Sverdlikovo, Pravda, Tolsty Lug, Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Yuzhny.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian forces also carried out other airstrikes against the reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 115th Mechanized Brigades; 82nd Air Assault Brigade; 1st National Guard Brigade; 1004th Security and Service Brigade; 103rd, 110th and 116th Territorial Defense Brigades near the settlements of Belopolye, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Bondaryovshchina, Glukhov, Zhuravka, Obody, Peremoga, Pavlovka, Rechki, Radkovka, Sumy, Shalygino and Khoten in Ukraine's Sumy region, bordering Russia's Kursk.

"Over the past 24 hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost more than 380 servicemen, two tanks, nine armored fighting vehicles, three artillery pieces, an electronic warfare station, a mine-clearing vehicle and 14 vehicles," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Russian media have also released videos showing several recent airstrikes by Russian forces against Ukrainian troops and their equipment in Kursk and Sumy.

Ukrainian military equipment attacked by Russian fire

In early August, Kiev forces launched a surprise attack on Kursk. Russian troops also launched a counteroffensive in Kursk in early September. So far, nearly a dozen settlements have been liberated.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, since the start of the battle for Kursk, Kiev forces have lost 16,000 troops; 126 tanks; 57 infantry fighting vehicles; 95 armored personnel carriers; 795 armored fighting vehicles; 492 motor vehicles; 124 artillery pieces; 29 launchers, including eight US-made HIMARS systems and six MLRS systems; eight air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles; 31 electronic warfare stations; seven anti-artillery radars; two airborne radars; 17 engineering vehicles, including ten anti-obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle.
