Teachers predict that English and Biology scores will be around 4-5, Physics will likely have a lot of 10s

TPO - The exam questions of the subjects in the new General Education Program have received a lot of attention from students and teachers. After the exams this morning, candidates "complained" that the English and Biology exams were difficult, teachers predicted that the average score would be low, while the Physics exam had a "rain" of 10s.

The English test is good and differentiated, there will be many low scores.

After completing the exam this morning, many candidates in Hanoi shared: "The English test had very difficult questions", "I struggled for a long time but still could not complete the exam", "Before the exam, I set a goal of getting a score of 9 but now I will only get a score of 7"...

Master An Thuy Linh, a Foreign Language teacher at Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School (Hanoi) commented that the English exam, 2018 General Education Program, was good and difficult, with high classification.

According to Ms. Linh, the exam is updated with information, tests both language and basic knowledge in life, and retains the structure of the previous sample exam announced by the Ministry of Education and Training , but has increased the difficulty level significantly.

The questions in the test are diverse and coincide with the topics in the 12th grade textbook. The amount of vocabulary and grammar structures used is at a much more advanced level than the amount of words in the books that students learn.

The difference between this year's exam and the old program's exam is that the questions have raised the level of knowledge from the single sentence level to the level of paragraphs, essays, and conversations with more complete semantics.

“It can be seen that this year’s exam has a very high level of differentiation. It is predicted that non-major students will only get a score of 4-5; students studying English as a subject in the university entrance exam will have a common score of around 6-8. And certainly, there will be few candidates who get a score of 10. Excellent students may stop at a score of 8-9,” said Ms. Linh.

According to Ms. Linh, this test will stimulate practical and serious English learning. The new type of test will train students in reading and understanding documents, communication situations, writing short paragraphs, writing flyers, advertisements, and announcements. However, the teacher also believes that with 50 minutes, long questions with a large amount of information, students who are not fast will not have enough time to complete the test.

Biology exam is challenging , the score range is mainly 4-5, it is difficult for candidates to get 8-9

Mr. Dinh Duc Hien, Executive Director of FPT Bac Giang Inter-level High School, commented that the Biology exam of the 2018 General Education Program has a completely new structure, similar to the sample exam that the Ministry of Education and Training announced in October 2025. However, if schools and students do not prepare carefully, teach and learn in the old way, focusing on knowledge transfer, it will be difficult to meet this exam.

The exam is consistent with the goals of the 2018 General Education Program. In addition to assessing basic knowledge, the exam has shown an important step forward in assessing students' abilities, greatly limiting the practice of random circling.

Teacher Dinh Duc Hien predicts that this year's score range will mainly fall between 4-5 points, with scores from 9 and above being limited.

“Although it is difficult to evaluate students comprehensively within the scope of a 50-minute exam, I think this is the most positive innovation since the multiple-choice test in 2007. The exam is highly differentiated, students can completely get 3-5 points to meet the graduation goal, to get a score above 8 will be difficult for candidates,” said Mr. Hien.

According to Mr. Hien, in the application questions, the data is not in the textbook but is data from research and experiments, requiring students to have the ability to read, analyze, link, synthesize and compare data, based on basic knowledge to find the answer. In particular, this test is not for impatient students.

With this exam structure, it is not easy for students to get full marks. Students easily lose points in the True-False and short answer test formats. Application questions also mainly fall into these two formats.

This year, the score distribution will certainly change, reflecting more accurately the abilities and choices of students due to changes in graduation exam subjects.

If in previous years students were forced to take the combination of 3 subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology to graduate, leading to many candidates who did not spend time studying Biology for university admission still having to take the exam, leading to random selection, very low scores, and inaccurate score distribution, this year students are allowed to choose 2 subjects, which are the subjects that most students invest in studying during the year for university admission.

This year's score range will mainly fall from 4-5 points, with a score of 9 or higher being limited, and university admission scores will fluctuate greatly and may decrease significantly. Universities can absolutely use this result for university admissions, and I think this result is the most reliable and best in student assessment to date.

Will physics have a "rain" of 10s?

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Physics teacher at Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, said that this year's exam was quite suitable for students.

Another Physics teacher in Hanoi said that after taking the exam, many candidates announced that they would get 9s and 10s. This year's Physics exam was quite easy, with no questions to classify students. With this exam, the teacher also predicted that many students would get 9s and there would be "a lot of 10s".

This teacher also thinks that it is unreasonable for Math to be clearly classified while Physics is easy. "When making exam questions, the difficulty of each subject must be relative to each other. One subject is extremely difficult, the other subject is easy so that even average students can get high scores," the teacher said.
