In the first quarter of 2024, Hai Phong's industrial production index (IIP) increased by 12.59%, 2.22 times higher than the national average (5.67%), ranking 12th in the country and leading the 5 centrally-run cities. In the context of many economic difficulties, this result is remarkable, showing the positive recovery of the city's economy after a year of many difficulties and fluctuations, and at the same time demonstrating that industrial production still plays a role as a driving force for economic growth, creating a premise for Hai Phong's growth target in 2024.

According to experts, from the beginning of the first quarter and especially in March 2024, industrial production in the whole country in general and Hai Phong in particular continued to show a positive recovery. This result is clearly reflected in the fact that businesses have resumed previously broken supply chains to increase orders. The market is gradually expanding with increased total demand. Businesses are well prepared and proactive in grasping the situation so as not to miss opportunities even though standards from the export market are increasing. In the first quarter, a number of the city's key industries grew strongly compared to the same period, such as: Production of cutlery, hand tools and common metal products increased by 103.63%; production of computers and computer peripherals increased by 91.87%; shipbuilding and floating structures increased by 76.17%...
Although some key economic indicators of Hai Phong such as GRDP; IIP; budget revenue... all grew at high rates, in reality, many other localities are also growing rapidly and Hai Phong is not resolute and determined, it may fall behind. With IIP, Hai Phong cannot be complacent when some localities have very high growth rates such as Khanh Hoa nearly 37%; Phu Tho 26.6%; Bac Giang nearly 24%; Thanh Hoa 20%...
Faced with that situation, in the second quarter of 2024, the Industry and Trade sector will focus on a number of key tasks and solutions to maintain industrial production growth such as advising the City People's Committee to establish new industrial clusters: Cam Van, Le Thien - Dai Ban; proposing to survey and research the construction of infrastructure for industrial clusters: Quoc Tuan, Quang Hung, Doan Xa... In addition, directing the Electricity sector to ensure electricity supply for business and production activities of enterprises, especially during the hot season... On the city side, it will continue to focus on developing a number of modern science and technology fields, especially the marine economy sector so that Hai Phong can truly take the lead in the industrialization and modernization of the whole country, soon becoming a city with modern industry, services and high-tech, organic, green, circular agriculture, associated with digital transformation, a modern marine economic center, of international stature. At the same time, complete the system of synchronous and modern technical and social infrastructure, first of all, prioritize the development of transport infrastructure connecting seaports with inland areas, creating the basis for strong development of logistics services and infrastructure for digital economic development, digital society, and digital government. Hai Phong is also researching and establishing the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone to ensure balance and harmony between economic benefits and green and sustainable requirements. This will be the guiding principle, helping the city continue to maintain the momentum of general economic growth and IIP growth in 2024 and the following years.
