Helping children with disabilities "reach their dreams"

A series of meaningful activities were organized at Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School - a school where more than 70% of the students are hearing-impaired - to celebrate Vietnam's Disabled Persons Day, contributing to helping disabled children "reach their dreams" - as shared by Mr. Pham Van Hoan, the school's principal.

On the morning of April 17th, at Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School (Hanoi), a Cultural and Sports Festival celebrating Vietnam's Disabled Persons Day (April 18th) was held. The event was attended by representatives from the Education and Training sector, the Hanoi Association for the Relief of Disabled Children, the Vietnam Fund for Disabled Children, local authorities, sponsors, and 381 students, teachers, and parents. In his opening remarks, Mr. Pham Van Hoan, Principal of Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School, shared: "Since the enactment of the Ordinance on Persons with Disabilities in 1998, April 18th has been officially recognized in state legal documents as Vietnam's Day for Persons with Disabilities. Every year on this occasion, many meaningful activities are organized to raise awareness among the community about people with disabilities, so that they are not alone, have more strength to live, and experience more joy and happiness. At Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School, with over 70% of the total student population being hearing impaired, the children are always respected, treated equally, loved, encouraged to express themselves, and integrated well into society." Within the framework of the Cultural and Sports Festival, all students, both hearing and hearing-impaired, were able to participate in activities and competitions meticulously prepared by the Youth Union, the Young Pioneers, and the school's teachers. (Video: Mai Hoa)

At the event, Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School honored organizations and individuals who have been accompanying and supporting disabled students for many years, including representatives from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the Hanoi Association for the Relief of Disabled Children, the Vietnam Fund for Disabled Children, the Dong Da District Department of Education and Training, the Nam Dong Ward People's Committee, the school's Parent-Teacher Association, Herbalife Vietnam, Deviemed (Germany), Blue Dragon Children's Organization (Australia), Hong Ngoc Hospital, Vietnam Prosperity Development Group, Fassttech Vietnam, But Vang Co., Ltd. and other partner businesses, Concordia International School, Edison Inter-level School… (Photo: Mai Hoa).

Many sponsors presented gifts directly at the event. Ms. Duong Thi Bich Diep, President of the Vietnam Fund for Children with Disabilities, donated teaching and learning equipment worth nearly 199 million VND to the school. Dr. Hoang Tan Cuong, Deputy Director of Hong Ngoc Hospital, presented a donation of 80 million VND to the students of Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School. Ms. Ngo Diem Huong, CEO of Huong Giang Interfa Group, and Mr. Tran Tue Minh, leader of a running group, also donated various material gifts... (Photo: Mai Hoa).

Within the framework of the festival, students with disabilities participated in the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest. The contest attracted special attention with elaborately staged performances, diverse genres, combining written articles, videos, and paintings… With the theme “50 Years - A Nation Full of Joy” celebrating 50 years of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, 3 teams from the inclusive primary school, special primary school, and secondary school categories conveyed the content of books about people and historical events associated with the arduous but extremely glorious journey of our nation, including books such as “More Than a Monument,” “The Great Victory of Spring 1975 and the Miraculous Changes of the Country”… (Photo: Mai Hoa).

The Organizing Committee also exhibited works from the "Uncle Ho with Children - Children with Uncle Ho" painting contest and the "My Favorite Book and My Dream Life" drawing contest. In the photo, Hoang Anh Dung, a hearing-impaired student in class 8B1 at Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School, is happy and joyful next to his painting depicting astronauts. The festival was also lively, exciting, and engaging with badminton competitions, folk games, tug-of-war, sack races, experiential activities, and stalls… Through the activities of the festival, teachers and parents of Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School hope that the students in the school will be more united, love each other more, love the school more, be faster, more creative, and more proactive (Photo: Mai Hoa) .
