Help children identify online scams.

Recently, there have been numerous cases of online scams and deception targeting children. Despite numerous warnings from authorities, this situation persists, exploiting children's fear, lack of coping skills, inability to protect themselves, and limited understanding of the digital world.

As the digital world parallels the real world, online survival skills must be an essential competency for the younger generation.

Many young people today live in material comfort but lack life skills due to limited exposure to their surroundings, little physical activity, and little concern for others.

Meanwhile, children's excessive screen time leads to limited social relationships and a narrow perspective, gradually fostering indifference to current events and a lack of understanding of real-world concepts. Therefore, when presented with such information, children easily believe it to be true and are compelled to follow the instructions of those who provide it.

In particular, children are becoming increasingly estranged from their families, sometimes even rebellious, while easily trusting strangers due to their limited understanding and susceptibility to psychological manipulation. Meanwhile, current scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, often using tactics to lure children away from home, causing them to automatically fall into traps.

In fact, basic skills children need to know come from life experiences and legal knowledge. If children are aware of the tricks commonly used by these individuals and possess relevant knowledge, they will not be easily deceived.

There are two concepts that children absolutely need to know: First, no law prohibits children from informing their parents if they encounter legal problems. Second, no one in this world will easily give them money for free.

Importantly, parents need to repeatedly remind their children to call home no matter what happens. Families should have the quickest and most effective ways to communicate and send messages to each other.

In the context of rapid technological development and the increasing incompatibility of social media, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to use the internet and social media safely is extremely necessary.

The education sector and schools cannot remain uninvolved. First and foremost, digital skills and online safety education should be included as a core curriculum or integrated into various subjects. Children need to understand how to distinguish between real and fake information, how to protect their personal identities, recognize online scams, and develop ethical awareness when interacting in the digital environment.

In addition, teachers need to be trained in technology knowledge and skills to guide students in using social media safely. We cannot expect students to change if adults lack the knowledge to guide them.

Digital skills education shouldn't be limited to the classroom; it needs to be reinforced within the family. As the digital world parallels the real world, survival skills in the online environment must be essential competencies for the younger generation.

Parents should regularly discuss current events, both domestic and international, with their children. This provides life skills, broadens children's perspectives, and equips them with the ability to cope with and prevent kidnapping and fraud. Respectful and fair communication will foster a stronger understanding and connection between children and their parents.
