This activity follows the success of the "Building the AI Future" initiative introduced in 2024, aiming to expand cooperation to strengthen the artificial intelligence (AI) startup ecosystem, as well as promote the digital transformation process in Vietnam.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized that “The Party and Government of Vietnam have identified Science and Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation as the shortest path, a vital factor for Vietnam to realize its aspiration for rapid, sustainable, inclusive and self-reliant development to successfully achieve the country's two 100-year goals. Science and Technology and Innovation are not only the driving force for economic growth, but also the inevitable path to building a prosperous Vietnam, increasing labor productivity, national competitiveness, protecting the environment, responding to climate change and improving the quality of people's lives”.
"The Vietnamese Government has been implementing policies to support technology research and development, while focusing on building digital infrastructure; and has issued policies to support investment in strategic technology projects, including AI," Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized.
With strong and timely policies and guidelines, many of the world's leading technology corporations have been expanding their investments in Vietnam, such as: Google, Meta, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Samsung, SK... Cooperation between domestic enterprises, institutes and schools with foreign partners to develop AI applications is also being strongly implemented.
Affirming that “Vietnam is ready for the journey to become a center for research, development and application of AI at the regional and global level”, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Google continue to closely coordinate with NIC, businesses, universities, research institutes, and experts to build visions, goals and action plans for major tasks, including: investing in building an AI training, incubation, research and development center in Vietnam; building a high-quality AI workforce; popularizing AI for the business community; developing an AI innovation ecosystem to nurture and develop creative ideas; and advising Vietnam on building and perfecting the legal framework on AI.
Key initiatives announced at the event include: Google for Startups AI Bootcamp 2025: A three-day intensive training program in Ho Chi Minh City for 100 startups (equivalent to 200 developers). The program helps developers master how to apply Google's latest AI features, from ideation, rapid prototyping to product completion and fundraising preparation.
Google for Startups AI Solutions Lab 2025: A 4-day hackathon in Da Nang, bringing together 50 startups with the goal of building GenAI solutions to solve practical challenges locally.
Participating teams will be supported with free workspace for six months by the Da Nang Center for Research, Training and Development of Microchip Design and Artificial Intelligence (DSAC). In particular, the 10 best teams will have the opportunity to present their products to investors and partners at Google Vietnam's biggest AI event of the year in September 2025.
These support initiatives not only accelerate businesses but also contribute to creating more job opportunities, with more than 300 new jobs emerging as these startups successfully raise capital and expand their teams.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Que, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Edmicro - a start-up that participated in the program, the program is not only a simple training course, but also an important platform to help start-ups access advanced AI knowledge and breakthrough technology. This is also an opportunity for founders to connect, share experiences and overcome challenges together, developing together in a dynamic start-up community.
In particular, the AI Essentials course has a Vietnamese version. This is a self-study course lasting about 10 hours, providing practical knowledge on using generative AI to improve productivity, effective command generation techniques, and responsible behavior with AI.
According to Mr. Marc Woo, Managing Director of Google Vietnam, the opportunity to develop an AI-led economy in Vietnam is huge. A Google survey shows that more than 70% of internet users in Vietnam have used AI at work. Vietnam is not only keeping up with the global AI trend but is also leading the way, with the number of AI startups increasing more than 4.5 times since 2021.
Recognizing and appreciating the results of these programs, Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Quoc Phuong affirmed that the programs have become powerful launching pads, giving the young generation of Vietnam the key to knowledge to open the door to the future, while also giving technology startups more motivation to turn their ideas into reality.
Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong also said that, implementing the direction of the Government, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung on science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation, in the recent past, the Ministry of Finance has deployed many tasks and solutions to perfect mechanisms and policies, create a favorable environment, attract high-tech investment and global knowledge, gradually realizing the aspiration of making Vietnam a center of innovation in the coming time.
The Ministry of Finance also directed the National Innovation Center to proactively coordinate with many domestic and international partners to implement specific activities to support businesses and promote the development of the innovation and startup ecosystem, especially in some key areas such as artificial intelligence (AI).
“The Ministry of Finance is committed to always accompanying businesses and domestic and foreign partners to promote the development of artificial intelligence in particular and science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation in general in Vietnam,” Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong affirmed.
