Hanoi FC will face Pohang Steelers in the opening match of the 2023/2024 AFC Champions League group stage. The Korean team is rated higher than the home team. Coach Kim Gi-dong has respect for Hanoi FC but believes they will take 3 points away from home.
" I don't care much about the head-to-head record of Korean clubs against Vietnam. We focus on each match. In tomorrow's match, if we can play our way, Pohang will get 3 points ," said Pohang Steelers head coach.

The team that finished third in the K-League last season will be without attacking midfielder Goh Young-jun. At just 22 years old, the midfielder has made nearly 100 appearances for his club, scoring 17 goals. Young-jun is absent due to his participation in the 19th Asian Games for the Korean Olympic team.
Coach Kim Gi-dong said: " He is an important player for the team with excellent technique. However, our team is not built on any one individual. Last season, we had many injuries but the remaining players played well to compensate. Goh Dong-jun's talent cannot be denied, but we have many other quality players ."
Meanwhile, striker Kim Seung-dae shared: " This is a special match for me as it is my first time working with coach Kim Gi-dong in the Asian arena. I really wanted to play the opening match at home but the team has to play away, so everything is very difficult. We will try to win 3 precious points tomorrow ."
The match between Hanoi FC and Pohang Steeles will take place at 19:00 on September 20, at My Dinh Stadium.
