Coach Vu Hong Viet revealed the reason for Nam Dinh's victory

On the evening of September 17, Nam Dinh Club won 3-1 against Ratchaburi in the opening match of AFC Champions League 2. At Thien Truong Stadium, a double from Marlos Brenner and a super goal from Caio Cesar helped the Vietnamese representative win all 3 points, thereby sharing the top spot in Group F with Gamba Osaka after the first round.

"Both Nam Dinh and Ratchaburi played well, created many opportunities, and brought a high-quality performance. We were lucky to win," coach Vu Hong Viet told the press after the match.

With a squad of 10 foreign players and 1 domestic player (only midfielder Ly Cong Hoang Anh was a domestic player with a starting position), Nam Dinh Club overwhelmed Ratchaburi. In the 35th minute, Mahmoud Eid crossed the ball just in time for Caio Cesar to jump up and finish, opening the score. Then, at the beginning of the second half, a double in just 5 minutes (52 and 57) by Marlos Brenner helped the team from Thanh Nam quickly lead 3-0. Ratchaburi's efforts were only exchanged for a consolation goal by Tana.

When asked about the choice of using a squad with an overwhelming foreign force, Coach Vu Hong Viet explained: "In fact, Nam Dinh Club plays in 4 competitions this season, so it must have a deep force. Because Nam Dinh's domestic army is not thick, the team must add foreign soldiers. In addition, in AFC Champions League 2, teams are not limited in the number of foreign soldiers used per match.

Of course, I have to calculate the balance for each match, each opponent, so that Nam Dinh players can promote their abilities well."

'Nam Dinh Club's defense was complacent'

"In today's match, all Nam Dinh players played well and tried their best. I appreciate Caio Cesar, Percy Tau, Marlos Brenner and Mitchell Dijks. They all played great. As for Percy Tau, if he keeps this form, I will consider letting him play in the V-League," Coach Vu Hong Viet further assessed the foreign players.

However, the Nam Dinh club's coach was not satisfied with the defense, when he let the Ratchaburi striker in the only goal conceded. In this phase, Mitchell Dijks and Lucas Alves made mistakes in blocking, allowing the opponent to comfortably place the ball past goalkeeper Caique Santos.

Nam Dinh Club needs to improve further

"Nam Dinh's loss came from a moment of losing concentration after leading 3-0. The players were probably a bit complacent. In this situation, if we had focused, we could have limited it," coach Vu Hong Viet explained.

"When the ball was almost out of bounds, no Nam Dinh defender stepped out to intervene. Because Nam Dinh defenders intervened slowly, Ratchaburi was able to get the ball inside, and the central defenders inside also handled it slowly. We have to fix it to limit goals like that."

The Nam Dinh coach also commented: "In the final minutes, Nam Dinh Club had many counter-attack opportunities but failed to take advantage. At that time, it seemed that the players were tired and could not rush forward to support their teammates, so the opportunity unfortunately passed. We have to fix it in the next match."

As for midfielder Caio Cesar, who was voted the best player of the match, Nam Dinh Club won thanks to controlling the match and converting good opportunities.

"Nam Dinh Club played well, controlled the game and converted opportunities into goals. This is the motivation for the team to go deep in AFC Champions League 2," Caio Cesar commented.
