Hanoi combines cultural heritage preservation with commercial development

Hanoi will establish commercial and cultural development areas, with priority given to neighborhoods, streets, craft villages, walking streets, and existing rural residential areas with advantages in terms of commercial location and cultural space.

This is the content of the Draft Resolution of the Hanoi People's Council that is being consulted on the area of commercial and cultural development. Accordingly, cultural activities include organizing events, festivals, art performances, traditional culture; building and developing museums, traditional houses, and art exhibition spaces. In addition, preserving and promoting tangible and intangible cultural heritages, cultural works, valuable architectural works, landscapes, typical customs and practices, etc.

Commercial activities include developing a system of stores, markets, shopping centers and business locations associated with local cultural characteristics; organizing fairs, trade exhibitions, promoting products, especially products from traditional industries and crafts and local specialties.

According to statistics, the walking spaces in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi City operate effectively with more than 9,000 traditional and contemporary art performances held. Of which, more than 2,400 performances were held at the Hoan Kiem Lake walking space and more than 6,800 performances at the walking street in Hanoi's Old Quarter.

Hanoi is considered the "land of a hundred crafts" with 1,350 craft villages and villages with crafts. Of these, more than 300 traditional crafts and traditional craft villages have been recognized with titles.
