In his commemorative speech, Chairman of the Hanoi City Association of Former Youth Volunteers Nguyen Van Dinh said that exactly 60 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh issued a call for all people to fight against the US and save the country. On June 21, 1965, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 71/TTg-CN on the establishment of Youth Volunteer Teams to fight against the US and save the country.
Responding to the call of the City Party Committee and the Vietnam Youth Union, hundreds of thousands of young people in Hanoi, Ha Tay and Vinh Phuc provinces enthusiastically wrote “Letters of Determination” to volunteer to join the Youth Volunteer Force to fight against the US and save the country. Do Quoc Phong, Head of the Liaison Committee of the Youth Volunteer Force to Fight the Americans and Save the Country in the Capital, said that Hanoi had mobilized and established tens of thousands of young volunteers and dozens of Youth Volunteer Teams to fight the Americans and save the country. The first teams were N43, 81, K53, 105... established and went to the front line of Zone 4, receiving their missions. Generations of youth teams were full of enthusiasm for working, fighting, and serving the battle with the slogan "Living on the roads and bridges, dying bravely and steadfastly, as long as there are people, there is still a road", ensuring absolute safety for our vehicles going to battle.
The Youth Volunteer Force units fighting against the US to save the country in the Capital have achieved resounding feats, contributing greatly to the victory of our army and people, liberating the South and unifying the country. More than 400 martyrs, more than 2,200 wounded soldiers and thousands of Youth Volunteer Force members in the Capital were infected with Agent Orange... The Youth Volunteer Force fighting against the US to save the country in the Capital was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State in 2010.

Speaking on behalf of the city's leaders at the program, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong conveyed the greetings of Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai to the former Youth Volunteers who fought against the US and saved the country in the capital.

Affirming that the contributions of the Youth Volunteers to fight against the US and save the country are very worthy for the Capital and the country, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong emphasized: “The contributions of you have created a very proud tradition for our Capital. It is not only the Capital of a thousand years of culture but also the heroic Capital, the city for peace. You, comrades, are always an example for the younger generation to follow and learn from.”

Comrade Nguyen Van Phong also said that the city's leaders through many periods have paid great attention to the Youth Volunteer Force and always highly appreciated the exemplary nature of the Youth Volunteer Force.

Acknowledging the recommendations of the Youth Volunteer Force, comrade Nguyen Van Phong said that on the occasion of the upcoming 80th anniversary of the founding of the country, he will direct relevant agencies to review all cases of problems regarding the Youth Volunteer Force's regime and policies and will advise the Central Committee to find solutions, trying their best.

The Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee requested the Hanoi City Association of Former Youth Volunteers to review cases that are really difficult in housing, summarize and report to the city for direction, ensuring that no one is left out. In addition, the city will actively propose to the Central Government to have policies for the Youth Volunteers who are pioneering new economic activities in Lam Dong and Song Be to enjoy the same benefits as the Youth Volunteers. Currently, the city is directing to support health insurance for this force...
He also requested the Hanoi Youth Union to create all favorable conditions, not only at the city level but also at the grassroots level, to closely coordinate with the Youth Volunteer Force in new communes and wards to organize activities and ensure no interruptions.
Expressing gratitude and sending wishes of good health to the exemplary former Youth Volunteers, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee expressed his belief: “With the revolutionary tradition, the qualities of the Youth Volunteers fighting against the US and saving the country, the Capital Hanoi will continue to be promoted in the new revolutionary period so that the Capital Youth Volunteers will always be the shock force, the vanguard force, worthy of the tradition of the heroic Capital and worthy of the tradition of the heroic Vietnamese Youth Volunteers”.
