On the afternoon of October 14, the National Children's Hospital announced that it had received two drowning cases, two twin brothers (19 months old, in Hanoi ). According to information from their families, the two children were found falling into a pond and it is unclear how long they had been submerged.

Baby M.D was pulled up first, in a state of cyanosis and respiratory arrest. Right at the scene, the family performed CPR for about 10 minutes according to the information that had been disseminated . However, because the family had not yet mastered the instructions, the baby's heartbeat had not yet returned at that time. On the way to the commune health station and local hospital, CPR was maintained continuously for about 10 minutes.

Twin brothers drowned -0
Dr. Tran Ba Dung has directly treated many drowning cases hospitalized in very serious condition.

At the primary medical facility, the child continued to receive emergency treatment for about 20 minutes, the child's heartbeat returned, he was intubated, maintained on vasopressors and transferred to the National Children's Hospital. Here, the doctors applied all active resuscitation measures, but unfortunately, after 4 days of treatment, the child fell into a state of multiple organ failure, brain damage, deep coma and did not survive.

The twin brother who drowned at the same time was rescued after M.D. and was taken to the local hospital for emergency treatment for a longer time (estimated at 45 minutes). Although his heartbeat returned, when he was transferred to the National Children's Hospital, he was in a deep coma, with maximally dilated pupils, and was determined to be brain-dead, so the family asked to return home that night.

From this unfortunate incident, Master, Doctor Tran Ba Dung, Department of Internal Medicine Intensive Care, National Children's Hospital, recommends that parents pay special attention to measures to prevent drowning for children, especially during the rainy season.

Caregivers must always pay attention and supervise children at all times. During the rainy season, move children's play areas to higher ground, away from flooded areas, and educate children to stay away from ponds, sewers and flooded areas.

Buckets, basins, jars and water tanks must be covered and kept out of reach of children as many babies can drown by falling into buckets of water.

Ponds, lakes, and wells must be fenced to ensure that children cannot enter without permission. Provide education (for children from grade 1) on drowning prevention and teach children to swim safely.

Educate and guide older children to recognize dangerous places with high risk of drowning, not to bathe or play in dangerous water areas, and not to tease or push them while swimming.
