Two Russian cosmonauts prepare a large radiator to move from the Rassvet mini research module to the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module during a spacewalk on November 17, 2022 outside the International Space Station.
On April 19, two Russian cosmonauts performed the first spacewalk in 2023, after a decompression incident on the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft (Russia).
According to RIA Novosti news agency, two astronauts Sergei Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin decided to go into space to move a radiator between modules of the International Space Station (ISS).
This was the second spacewalk for cosmonaut Petelin and the fourth for cosmonaut Prokopyev.
The astronauts were tasked with disconnecting the electrical cable between the radiant heat exchanger and a module called “Zarya,” unplugging the radiator, and then opening four locks that linked the radiator to the module.
Previously, the plan for a spacewalk on December 14, 2022 by two Russian astronauts had to be canceled at the last minute.
On December 15, 2022, the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) confirmed that the spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS) by two Russian cosmonauts was canceled due to technical reasons.
An expert from Russia's Mission Control Center (MCC) said the plan was canceled because an unidentified substance was discovered leaking from the tail of the Soyuz spacecraft connected to the ISS, but the inside of the Soyuz spacecraft was still safe./.
