After merging with Hai Duong , Hai Phong City has just entered a development phase with a large spatial scale, a natural area of nearly 3,200 km2, and a population of more than 4.6 million people. This is a historic turning point, opening up opportunities to restructure the development space, creating a foundation for the goal of becoming a modern maritime economic center, international logistics and a dynamic urban area of the Northern Delta region.

In Hai Phong City, many large-scale transportation projects have been completed, contributing to bringing the port city closer to the goal of becoming a leading logistics center in the region. National highways, provincial roads, and urban roads are continuously expanded, connecting smoothly from the center to the suburbs. The system of river bridges has been invested in modernly, helping to shorten the distance and reduce the load on the main routes.

Along with that, Lach Huyen International Gateway Port has enough capacity to receive ships with a capacity of hundreds of thousands of tons, making it an important transit point in the North. Cat Bi International Airport is being upgraded with Terminal T2 and parking infrastructure to meet the increasing demand for air transport.

During the 2020-2024 period, the East of Hai Phong has built 32.5 km of new national highways, 30.78 km of provincial roads, 55.49 km of district roads, 100.04 km of urban roads and 22 bridges with a total length of more than 10.4 km. Investing in dozens of bridges and upgrading a series of roads has contributed to making inter-regional traffic increasingly convenient.

Besides, there are a series of strategic routes, forming the North - South, East - West axes, along with regional connecting belts and new bridge systems such as Quang Thanh, Dong Viet, Hai Hung, Dinh bridge... in the West of Hai Phong.

With 57 important infrastructure projects with a total length of about 285 km, a total investment of nearly 30,000 billion VND, of which 15 projects have been completed and put into operation, dozens of other projects are under urgent construction, helping to connect trade between key economic zones. At the same time, Hai Phong also focuses on developing inland waterway ports and logistics centers, taking advantage of its location along major rivers to connect goods to seaports and international markets.

Resolution No. 45-NQ/TW of the Politburo identifies Hai Phong as a modern international logistics service center with the core being an international gateway seaport. According to the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Hai Phong seaport is planned and classified as a special seaport in the planning of Vietnam's seaport system, playing an important role as a gateway to the sea for the entire Northern region...

When properly planned, the traffic infrastructure of the new Hai Phong City will not only serve the province, but also become an important link in the regional and international trade network.

Mr. Le Ngoc Chau, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, said that in order to maximize the potential and advantages of a seaport city and a regional economic center, Hai Phong will carry out strategic breakthroughs such as implementing specific mechanisms and policies, especially building a new generation Free Trade Zone; perfecting the city-wide planning system to maximize resources, forming new growth engine zones, synchronously investing in modern strategic infrastructure systems for seaports, industry, and logistics; building Hai Phong into a center of marine tourism...

Hai Phong City will promote specific mechanisms to accelerate the development of logistics centers (over 50 hectares) or logistics services (up to 50 hectares) serving seaports, airports, and inland waterway ports.
