Import and export for the whole year may exceed 780 billion USD

On the afternoon of December 16, the General Department of Customs held an online conference to summarize the work in 2024 and deploy tasks in 2025 with the participation of leaders of the Ministry of Finance .

According to the report of the General Department of Customs, as of December 14, 2024, the total import-export value reached 745.38 billion USD, an increase of 15.35% over the same period in 2023. Of which, exports reached 384.4 billion USD, an increase of 14.46% and imports reached 360.98 billion USD, an increase of 16.32%.

On the afternoon of December 16, the General Department of Customs held an online conference to review the work in 2024 and deploy tasks in 2025 with the participation of leaders of the Ministry of Finance.

Vietnam's trade balance of goods as of December 14, 2024 had a surplus of 23.42 billion USD, 2.29 billion USD lower than the surplus of 25.71 billion USD in the same period in 2023.

It is forecasted that the total import-export value of Vietnam's goods in 2024 could reach about 782.33 billion USD, with a trade surplus estimated at 23.53 billion USD.

Thanks to the positive growth of trade and the efforts of civil servants nationwide, the state budget revenue of the Customs sector from January 1 to December 14, 2024 reached VND 402,680 billion, reaching 107.4% of the estimate, up 13.9% over the same period in 2023.

Based on the actual revenue situation in the past time, the General Department of Customs expects the total revenue for the whole year of 2024 to reach 418,000 - 420,000 billion VND, equal to 111.5% - 112% of the assigned estimate, an increase of 13.4% - 13.9% over the same period in 2023.

Simplifying and automating customs procedures and facilitating trade have also achieved many positive results.

The national single window mechanism has 250 administrative procedures of 13 ministries and branches connected with more than 75.4 thousand enterprises. Maintain official connection to exchange information on electronic certificate of origin form D with 9 ASEAN member countries. Currently coordinating testing in a pilot environment with Laos and expanding information exchange with trade partners such as: Japan, China, Korea, the United States....

In 2024, the General Department of Customs has researched and commented on 69 drafts of legal documents and projects on specialized inspections sent by ministries, branches, the Government Office , and People's Committees of provinces and cities for comments.

The smart border gate model project in Lang Son and the Digital Border Gate model project for road border gates have been actively implemented, expected to bring many benefits to import-export enterprises.

Implement new models effectively, ensuring continuous operations

2025 is a year of special significance, also marking an important milestone of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Customs. Following the direction of leaders at all levels on the implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017 of the 12th Party Central Committee, the General Department of Customs has studied and arranged to perfect the streamlined organization and operate effectively in accordance with the direction and orientation of the Party, Government and Ministry of Finance.

To meet the requirements of the integration period and strive to achieve many achievements towards the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Industry, the General Department of Customs continues to focus on implementing drastically, synchronously and effectively the tasks and solutions set out in accordance with the resolutions and conclusions of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo; resolutions of the National Assembly, the Government, the direction of the Prime Minister and providing specific directions and solutions.

Accordingly, the implementation of the new organizational model of Vietnam Customs after being approved by competent authorities ensures continuous and effective operation, in accordance with the orientation of the Party, Government and direction of the Ministry of Finance's leaders.

In addition, continue to apply scientific advances in the 4.0 industrial revolution to redesign the overall information technology system of the Customs sector, build information technology solutions to support state management requirements for exported and imported goods, means of transport exiting, entering and transiting in the direction of centralized management and operation at customs agencies.

Reform and simplification of administrative procedures in the Customs sector will continue to be promoted towards modernity, openness, transparency, etc. to contribute to improving the business environment and enhancing national competitiveness.

Along with that, it is necessary to resolutely and synchronously implement solutions to collect the state budget in 2025; strengthen the control of smuggling and trade fraud, risk management, post-clearance inspection; inspection work, and strive to complete the task of collecting the state budget.

In particular, facilitating trade and preventing smuggling, trade fraud, drug prevention, ensuring national security and safety, and social order; demonstrated through the role of the Standing Agency of the National Steering Committee on the ASEAN Single Window, the National Single Window and Trade Facilitation (Committee 1899) and the Supporting Agency for the Standing Agency of the National Steering Committee 389 against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.

Finally, it is necessary to strengthen the implementation of international cooperation and integration activities, expand cooperation with customs of other countries, create a legal corridor for extensive cooperation activities in professional fields as well as modernization reforms.

From December 16, 2023 to November 15, 2024, the customs sector detected, arrested and handled 16,390 cases of violations of customs laws, with an estimated value of infringing goods of VND 29,273 billion (an increase of 12.12% in the number of cases and 154.09% in value compared to the same period in 2023). The customs authority prosecuted 24 cases and transferred 157 cases to other agencies for prosecution. The amount of money collected for the state budget from handling violations was VND 901.58 billion.
