Thousands of hectares of rice and coastal aquaculture areas were flooded by storm No. 3.

On the morning of July 22, storm No. 3 made landfall, causing widespread heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 100 to 200 mm, and in some places over 300 mm. Heavy rain combined with high tides caused thousands of hectares of seasonal rice and aquaculture areas in coastal communes to be severely flooded, with many areas at risk of total loss.

According to local reports, as of 2:30 p.m., Thai Ninh commune had more than 990/1,002.5 hectares of winter-spring rice flooded; Dong Thai Ninh commune had more than 900/1,011 hectares of winter-spring rice and more than 291 hectares of aquaculture affected. In Dong Thuy Anh commune, more than 470/1,244 hectares of winter-spring rice were flooded; Thai Thuy commune had more than 640/1,122 hectares of winter-spring rice and more than 23/300 hectares of aquaculture affected.

Currently, coastal communes are seriously implementing the "4 on-site" motto; maintaining 24/7 duty to monitor water levels, promptly opening sluice gates when the tide recedes; mobilizing forces to clear the flow, unblock the irrigation system; proactively draining water for newly planted rice, crops and low-lying areas to protect production and stabilize people's lives.  

* Dong Thuy Anh Commune

According to a quick report from the People's Committee of Dong Thuy Anh commune: As of 3:00 p.m. on July 22, storm No. 3 did not cause any damage to people or houses, but it seriously affected agricultural production in the area. The whole commune had 50 hectares out of a total of 425.2 hectares of aquaculture flooded (accounting for 11.8%), of which about 20 hectares were completely lost due to being close to the banks of the Hoa River. The flooded rice area was 572 hectares/1,244.4 hectares, accounting for 46%. Crops also suffered heavy damage, with 34 hectares/50 hectares flooded, equivalent to 67.3%.   In addition, the N2 riverside traffic route was eroded about 300m. Some roads along the riverside were flooded, water overflowed, and infrastructure damage is still being counted.

* Vu Thu commune has more than 900 hectares of winter-spring rice deeply flooded.

According to the report of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Vu Thu commune, storm No. 3 caused heavy rain, causing more than 900 hectares out of a total of more than 1,200 hectares of winter-spring rice in the commune to be deeply flooded.

In addition, in the commune, about 80 industrial and fruit trees that were broken down were cleared to ensure traffic; nearly 130 hectares out of a total of 195 hectares of crops were flooded and crushed. The storm caused some internal roads and alleys to be flooded; 30 advertising signs and agency signs were broken and felled.

Currently, the Vu Thu commune government has directed educational institutions, medical stations, agencies and units in the area; villages and residential groups to mobilize cadres and people to carry out a general cleaning campaign to collect tree branches, garbage, disinfect, sterilize and clean the environment; at the same time, directed agricultural cooperatives to urgently implement drainage plans according to the plan to prevent and combat flooding to protect newly planted rice and crops; propagate and mobilize people to go to the fields to collect algae, moss, clear the flow, clear trees and obstacles in rice fields and crop fields to quickly drain water.
