A journey of dedication full of will, determination and faith

At the Congress, many real people and real events in various fields participated in the exchange and shared their dedication to the capital and the country.

Never stop aspiring to contribute

The first person to join the audience at the Congress was the female military doctor, Associate Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Nguyen Kim Nu Hieu, former Deputy Director of the 108 Central Military Hospital - a Hanoi woman who was once considered a "steel rose" during the war, a shining symbol of the "Three responsibilities" spirit of Vietnamese women. In 1972, while pregnant with her first child, she still volunteered to cross Truong Son to the Quang Tri battlefield. Then, during her years of work in peacetime and even after retirement, she simply believed: "As long as you have strength, you will continue to contribute."

Now, at the age of 83, Associate Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Nguyen Kim Nu Hieu still continues to dedicate and contribute to society through social activities, especially volunteer work. She and a number of people who often do volunteer work coordinate with the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin of some (old) districts of Hanoi city to visit and give gifts to victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin; together with the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities to support 10 scholarships for female students in Hanoi every year for 4 consecutive years to help them study well.

Along with that, to carry out the goal of the Vietnam Women's Union in "Accompanying women in the border areas", she and the Border Guard chose Long Sap border gate to help people raise goats, wild boars, and grow tea; and help the school here by donating textbooks and tons of goods. In 2025, her volunteer group continued to support school repairs and raise 20 poor students.

With a kind heart and the mind of a physician, Associate Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Nguyen Kim Nu Hieu has devoted herself to helping the community with many useful things.

The entire hall burst into applause when it was learned that Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Nu Hieu is the daughter of the late Minister of Education Nguyen Van Huyen, her husband is Professor Dr. Nguyen Lan Dung and the son she was pregnant with when she volunteered to cross Truong Son to the South in 1972 is Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu, currently the Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital.

During the exchange session at the Congress, the audience also heard Professor, Dr., Architect Hoang Dao Kinh, member of the Hanoi Planning and Architecture Council (Hanoi Cultural Heritage Association) - who is respectfully called by the public with the title "Knight of Architectural Heritage" - share about his dedication to preserving the traditional beauty of Hanoi.

According to Professor, Dr., Architect Hoang Dao Kinh, Hanoi is carrying out the work of preserving relics and cultural heritage in a thoughtful and effective manner. The city is developing rapidly, modernizing rapidly in terms of height, solidity and massiveness of the works. Faced with this reality, he believes that Hanoi needs to move towards a higher level of conservation concept - that is, preserving the unique characteristics and identity of the Capital: Urban architectural heritage. Although that heritage is not massive, not splendid, even somewhat fragile, it contains closeness and intimacy, creating a very unique character of Hanoi.

“We need to pay attention to how to modernize and internationalize the city while still maintaining its own uniqueness, sophistication, and uniqueness. We need to balance that development and incorporate the spirit of a modern urban area so that Hanoi will forever be a very unique and special place,” said Professor, Dr. Architect Hoang Dao Kinh.

From that same deep concern and his continuous dedication to the Capital, Professor, Dr. Architect Hoang Dao Kinh was awarded the "Bui Xuan Phai - For the Love of Hanoi" Award in 2024. In 2025, he was one of 10 individuals honored as "Outstanding Citizens of the Capital".

“Believe that you can”

On the other hand, People's Teacher Nguyen Thi Hien, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Doan Thi Diem Primary School - a typical face in the patriotic emulation movement of the Capital - showed the extraordinary determination of a passionate "ferryman". She has devoted a lot of heart and effort to develop the quality of education and effectively applied many creative teaching models. In the journey of more than 30 years of building the "happy school" of the Capital, there has been sweat, great loss and the pain of a mother, so now, when sharing with the delegates attending the Congress, she still cannot hold back her tears.

In 1997, she was assigned to manage Doan Thi Diem Primary School - the first private primary school model in Hanoi. Because it was the first private school, and was managed by a teacher who was about to retire, at first, the school did not receive much attention from parents.

However, few people expected that with the “3 nos” (no primary school expertise; no management experience; no finance), only faith and the courage to innovate, in a short time, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien has built up the trust of parents. The need to send children to school is increasing.

She thought that the new journey would start smoothly, but during that time, her daughter, an English teacher, became seriously ill and passed away. Too heartbroken, she asked to stop working as a manager. During sleepless nights, the images of students playing and young teachers preparing lesson plans day and night always came to her mind, becoming a source of energy for her to overcome the pain, continue to throw herself into work, and continue to build a new facility for Doan Thi Diem school.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, with her own efforts, along with the support of students, parents, colleagues and family, she has overcome and built the Doan Thi Diem education system. From one facility with 27 students, up to now, the Doan Thi Diem education system has 5 facilities with more than 10,000 students and more than 1,000 staff and teachers.

People's Teacher Nguyen Thi Hien shared that she has faith and believes that only with faith can people overcome difficulties. The power of that faith is summarized in her memoir entitled "Believe that you can".

With her continuous efforts in the career of educating people, in 2014, Teacher Nguyen Thi Hien was awarded the title of National Emulation Fighter, Excellent Citizen of the Capital; in 2015, she received the Second Class Labor Medal; in 2017, she received the title of People's Teacher.

President Ho Chi Minh once affirmed: “A living example is worth more than a hundred propaganda speeches”. And today, real individuals, real events, and touching stories have fueled the belief, spirit of dedication and humane action for thousands of viewers following the Patriotic Emulation Congress for the period 2025-2030, creating community strength, bringing the capital Hanoi firmly into a new era.
