It took DH (27 years old, Hanoi ) and her husband 4 years of effort and hope to receive good news through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Before that, they had experienced the pain of losing a child at 21 weeks of pregnancy due to premature birth. Therefore, this pregnancy was monitored especially closely from the beginning.
With a history of threatened premature birth due to a short cervix, Ms. H. had to undergo cervical stitches twice, the first time at the 12th week of pregnancy and the second time at the 22nd week. After that, she was hospitalized for a long time in department A4 to take care of her pregnancy, and was injected with lung maturation drugs and Magnesium sulfate, preparing for the worst case scenario.

On January 14, when the pregnancy was only 24 weeks and 6 days, she showed signs of labor and gave birth naturally to a baby girl weighing only 600 grams. Immediately after birth, the baby fell into a state of severe respiratory failure, had to be resuscitated in the delivery room and quickly transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Here, the baby was put on a CPAP machine and had Curosurf pumped into her lungs to support her breathing.
However, the baby's recovery journey was not easy. On the 12th day after birth, the baby suffered from severe bronchopneumonia, causing severe respiratory failure, forcing him to switch to SIMV ventilation for 26 days, CPAP for 23 days, and two consecutive courses of antibiotics. Every day was a battle to regain his breath and life.
After 60 days of special care in an incubator, under the close supervision of doctors and nurses in the Neonatal Department, the baby was stable enough to meet and interact with his mother for the first time using the Kangaroo method.
The first hug, only a few minutes of skin-to-skin contact, but for Ms. H., it was life, connection, and the revival of maternal love after months of only being able to see her child through glass. From that moment on, her child seemed to gain more strength. The baby progressed better every day: gradually weaned off the ventilator, breastfed well, and gained weight steadily.
At 38 weeks corrected age, the baby could breathe completely on his own, digest well, and weighed 3kg, a miraculous milestone for a baby who was once as small as a hand.
During the more than 3 months that the child was in the hospital, Ms. H.'s family was always by her side, taking care of her, learning from her, and monitoring her every breath and every little movement. That journey was a training in love, patience, and resilience, not only from the child but also from the parents.
