Excited competition at Phu Dong Sports Festival in Dong Thap province

DTO - In recent days, in Cao Lanh City, more than 3,670 high school athletes from 12 districts and cities have enthusiastically competed in sports at the 23rd Phu Dong Sports Festival (HKPĐ) of Dong Thap province in 2024. According to the Organizing Committee (OC), this HKPĐ not only increased the number of athletes, but the competitions were also dramatic and attractive, thereby showing the careful preparation of the units.

After the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued the Plan to organize the 10th National Youth Union Congress in 2024, the Department of Education and Training proposed a policy and was approved by the Provincial People's Committee to organize Youth Union Congresses at all levels, towards the 23rd Youth Union Congress of Dong Thap province in 2024. On that basis, the Department of Education and Training coordinated with relevant departments and branches to unify the regulations; guide units to conduct Youth Union Congresses at school and district levels and participate in Youth Union Congresses at provincial level.

The People's Committees of districts and cities have closely coordinated with the Department of Education and Training and directed local departments and branches to support the Department of Education and Training in organizing the district-level HKPĐ; selecting athletes to participate in the provincial HKPĐ. With careful preparation from districts and cities, the 23rd HKPĐ of Dong Thap province in 2024 gathered more than 3,670 athletes (an increase of more than 300 athletes compared to the 22nd HKPĐ of the province in 2021). In phase I (from March 4 to 8), athletes competed in the following sports: taekwondo (in Hong Ngu city), vovinam (Thap Muoi district) and chess (Sa Dec city). Phase II took place from March 10 to 13, 2024 with 10 sports concentrated in Cao Lanh city including: athletics, swimming, badminton, shuttlecock, table tennis, volleyball, football, basketball, pole pushing and karate.

Towards the provincial HKPĐ this year, Hong Ngu district is the first unit in the province to organize HKPĐ at the district level, so it has favorable conditions in terms of time to organize training, review the force, ensure quantity and quality. Mr. Nguyen The Trung - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hong Ngu district said: "Based on the regulations of the provincial HKPĐ, from the district HKPĐ, the Department of Education and Training has recruited excellent students to form the unit's Student Team and coordinated with the District Culture - Sports and Broadcasting Center to implement a training plan to improve the athletes' techniques and experience. Thanks to the attention of the leaders of the district People's Committee and the efforts of the athletes, Hong Ngu district participates in the provincial HKPĐ with the determination to achieve the goal of being in the top 2 units with the best results".

The careful preparation of the participating units has contributed to creating exciting and thrilling competitions in each event. With the desire to win individual medals and contribute to the achievements of the unit, the athletes have shown their determination to compete for the "color of the flag and uniform", bringing good and exciting matches. Delighted after winning 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal in taekwondo, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan (born in 2007) - Tan Hong district unit, shared: "This is the first time I have participated in the provincial HKPĐ so I always try to practice to prepare best for the tournament. Going into the competition, I felt nervous but thanks to the encouragement of the Coach, I overcame the pressure and won the individual gold medal. In addition, I am very happy and proud to have won 1 gold medal and 1 bronze medal in the team events to contribute to the achievements of taekwondo and the achievements of Tan Hong district...".

According to the Organizing Committee, by March 11, the 23rd Dong Thap Provincial Sports Festival in 2024 had completed 3 competitions: taekwondo, vovinam and chess. According to the Organizing Committee, the matches were held in accordance with the regulations and the medal competition was high. In particular, traditional units took advantage of their local strengths to win many medals, temporarily rising in the race on the rankings. Tan Hong district competed excellently in taekwondo and vovinam, thereby temporarily leading the medal rankings with 16 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 10 bronze medals. Sa Dec city took advantage of its chess strengths to rise to 2nd place with 13 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals. Thap Muoi district continued to be "unrivaled" in vovinam, plus medals from taekwondo, so it ranked 3rd with 12 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals.

For the Dong Thap Provincial Sports Festival to take place successfully, the Organizing Committee, the Professional Subcommittees, and the referee force will organize and operate sports in accordance with the regulations. At the same time, it is expected that student athletes will always demonstrate the sports spirit of "Solidarity, honesty, nobility and progress", competing with the highest determination. Thereby, helping the Provincial Sports Festival to truly be a sports festival for high school students of the Red Lotus Land, spreading the movement of physical education and sports in schools, contributing to the comprehensive education of students".
