Harry Kane scored twice, Bayern Munich defeated Chelsea

(Dan Tri) - Harry Kane scored a double, helping Bayern Munich get off to a perfect start in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the early morning of September 18.

Returning to Europe's most prestigious arena after winning the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last season, Chelsea entered the match with determination, especially with the dynamism of Malo Gusto and Cole Palmer on the right wing. However, Bayern Munich are not easy to bully right at home.

The "Gray Tigers" were unbeaten in 16 consecutive home matches in the Champions League before losing to Inter in the quarter-finals last season, they quickly regained their form and took the initiative. However, the home team could not maintain a clear advantage, and Chelsea reduced the score just 2 minutes later. Palmer received the ball in the middle of the field, broke into the Bayern Munich penalty area, coordinated with Gusto and finished with a tricky shot into the top corner to reduce the score to 1-2.

Chelsea seemed to have the momentum going in the second half, but they failed to make the most of their chances and Bayern took the lead. Two excellent saves from Robert Sanchez on Kane and Olise kept the Blues in the game, but the Spaniard was left powerless as Kane fired home from Gusto's poor pass to make it 3-1 in the 63rd minute.

Coach Enzo Maresca made several substitutions in the remaining minutes of the game to salvage the result, but his side were unlucky when Palmer was ruled offside after touching the ball from Andrey Santos' pass. Bayern Munich eventually won 3-1 at home.

The win maintained Bayern's unbeaten start to the season, giving manager Vincent Kompany hope his side can overcome their record of being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in five of the last six seasons. Chelsea became the first team to score at the Allianz Arena this season, but the result did not go Maresca's way.
